What kind of autoloader do you prefer?

Of the guns I own, DAO is my prefered model.

Simple, safe and smooth sided. No controls to fiddle with and nothing to go wrong.
That being said, I'd have no problem with a decocker.
 
I do most of my shooting with a double/single. I do prefer a single action on the target range however. :)
 
I prefer DAO, in certain brands. S&W's DAO's are the best for me since the slide is cocked half way by the first 1/2" movement of the slide. That results in a short, consistant trigger pull. It's like shooting a DA revolver, but with a shorter trigger.

I had a DAO Sig P229 .40 S&W and absolutely hated it. The DAO trigger on them is the same as the first shot in a TDA. I've heard Beretta's are the same, so they are useless IMO, too.

The next action I would prefer if it was not a S&W DAO would be a TDA. Last would be the single action.
 
SA. I'm seriously thinking of getting a 1911 in 9mm just for the trigger.
 
SA, it's what I shot growing up, and when I really got into handguns it's what I trained with. After a couple years of 1911 shooting, my first time trying a Beretta on DA/SA resulted in terrible accuracy on the DA shot. I now own a couple DA/SA autos and I've gotten better about the transition, but SA is still the preference.

Sounds like something I might be interested in. Even though I own nearly two dozen S&W autoloaders, I never warmed up to their DAO models. Looks like I need to look into the SIGs and Beretta's for my DAO needs.
 
How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love SA autos.
After years of shooting SIG's, (P226 & P220), I was resigned to being a decent pistolero. Even with professional coaching and many thousands of rounds sent downrange, the proverbial "one ragged hole" continued to elude me. I shot, qualified and carried TDA's and came to believe I was destined to be just a so-so shot.
Then one fateful day I decided to return to the revolvers I had shot so well as a young man. I got a S&W 629PP. Suddenly I was pretty good again. How could this be I asked myself? After all, aren't SIG's the best and most accurate? What about all of those posts by Sig fans writing of 1-hole groups at 25 yds? I decided I was a wheelman and swapped my P220 for another Smith, a 625.
All seemed well with the world. In fact I even started competing in our local police pistol league. I, with my 625, and almost everyone else with their duty or personal semi's.
The came requalification day.
First I shot 50 rds. from the 625. Results: 48 in the 10-ring, mostly X's. I was about to qualify with the P226, confident I would shoot at least the minimum of 35 in the 7-ring or better when ChuckB asked if I wanted to try out his new Springfield Loaded. I loaded and shot 6, all X's.
Having run only 14 rds. through 1911's in my life, including the above 6, I asked ChuckB if I could try to qualify with his Springfield. The result: After the first 15 rds. the rangemaster put up another target because he wanted to make sure I was really putting them into the same hole in the X. He changed targets at the 35 rd mark for the same reason. 50 rds. all in the X for a perfect requalification score of 100.
On December 30th. I swapped my P226 for a Kimber Stainless Target II.
I like SIG's and still have one left. They are reliable, easy to strip and clean, and hold up well to years of use and carry. It's just that I have more fun hitting what I aim at.

i shoot um all my 2 carrys guns are one DAO and the other Sa/Da i love my Sa for range work but my 1911 is little to heavy for me right now to carry ...



So i guess ill vote single action
 
For what purpose? Imo, a pistol is a tool...so what's the job?

Carry or home defense? I prefer DA/SA like with my CZ's and Sigs (although the P226RDAK DAO is nice also).

Comp/Target/Range? I prefer SA 1911 (I'm more accurate with my SA Kimber Team Match II than I am even with my Sig P220ST or P226ST).

Many other DAO pistols seem nice to me as well, e.g. the XD (I know, technically it's classified as a SA), but the ability to smooth out the trigger seems to be much more limited, not so much because of the DAO mechanism itself, but because of the overall mechanics of the rest of the pistol (e.g. Glock, XD, etc.).

So I guess, for me, it depends on the job at hand.
 
My vote is for th SA. I seem to be able shoot a little better with that type of trigger system. But I do love my Sigs with the DA\SA.
 
I voted DAO,i like the trigger on my S&W 9VE sigma even if it's not quite a true DAO.It feels very close to the triggers on my smith revolvers.
 
Well, since I treat my CZ75B compact like an SA, I think I'd have to say SA. The trigger's just better. HOWEVER, I like having the DA mode there as backup, even if it's got that gosh-awful long reach. Light strike, all I have to do is pull the trigger again.

That said, when I shot glock models 20 and 21 lately, I learned that I also like that DAO striker trigger, and it felt *nothing* like what I've read on here :) To each their own, I suppose.

Once I finish paying off my 66-1 I'll find out how a DA revolver feels, and if I'll be treating it as an SA at the range, too.
 
I voted DA/SA because that is what I'm carrying right now. However, I have carried a Browning Hi Power, and hope to get a 1911 one of these days. Next time you run the poll, I may just vote with the majority!
