I'm looking for the best ammo for target shooting at 100 and 300 metres.

My rife has a 22 inch barrel with 1 in 12 twist.
so far I used Sellier & Bellot 55gr FMJ (1.5 MOA) and PRVI PArtizan 55 gr FMJ/BT (about 1 MOA).

Does in general BT ammo give better results?
Does it pay to start loading?

txs

If you are going to be shooting match grade ammo, it is worth reloading, especially if you shoot alot. Then you can taylor the ammo to shoot better in your gun. BT bullets may help at 300 meters, but longer ranges is where they really make a difference.

You may have to go to a lighter bullet with that 1-12" twist barrel, 45-52 gr bullets might work better as far as accuracy out to 100 meters, I don't know about 300 meters though, might be too light.... Yes, reloading is the best way for accuracy, although Black Hills or Hornady are very good also...

223 Ammo

1) Armor Ammunition Rounds (Excellent NC Mfg)
2) Federal American Eagle

223 & 308

No Stopages with Armor, once in a lifetime with AE

Old Multi Gun Shooter

Fiocchi 40gr V-max work great in my rem mohawk 600
best round that i have ever bought. pretty cheap to.

Yes it pays to reload. You can tailor-make loads your particular rifle likes. Mine likes Sierra Match King 52 BTHP ahead of Accurate 2015 or Varget powders.

If you want the utmost in accuracy, you should be reloading. Something like the Sierra 52gr with some H335 should get you where you want to be. If you don't want to load your own, do what many that don't reload do. Get Black Hills ammo. Their 52gr load is nice.

mine is a 1 in 9 i reload for it and it seems to like the 69 gr the best.

as for reloading it is costly to start now days. all my reloading equipment is long paid for so i can shoot more for less

Has anyone had any experience with the Zinc plated steel cased Silver Bear ammo?

I'm debating on what to buy and so far that's the best price I've found ($4.89/20)

I've only ever used brass (either PMC or Georgia Arms reloads)

I won't get into whether a good AR is "supposed" to be able to shoot the steel cased stuff, but I'll recommend that you get a couple hundred rounds and run them through your rifle and confirm that it likes to eat this ammo.

I get the 62gr Silver Bear specifically for running through my 14.5" frankengun and have to date put over 7000 rounds of Silver Bear through it and have yet to have an issue of any sort. I have, however, heard that if you expose the cases to the elements, it will start corroding pretty quickly. I don't know about this, because I order it in 500 round lots. Sort of a standing weekly or semi weekly order from cheaperthandirt. I get it in, load it into magazines and store it in an ammo can until I go out to shoot it. I keep a stash of M193 for when the zombies attack and rarely shoot that anymore.

Although I haven't tried it, I heard of a lot of guys running the Tula stuff from Cabelas. It's going for $200/k right now, I believe. I stick with the Silver Bear. It shoot well and isn't as under powered as some of the other stuff I've tried.

The only drawback to the silver bear and the ppu is that they use that red sealant around the primer and that stuff gets all up in the extractor, bolt and ejector. Other than that, I love the stuff.

I have a 1:12 twist. Mine seems to like the 52 grain match hollow points best. I use both Black Hills and HSM. HSM isn't quite as good, but is cheaper.

The Black Hills 52 gr. Match Hollowpoint load works very well in all my .223's.

It does pay to start reloading for shooting match ammo. Boattails are not really preferred for short range shooting (100-300 meters). It actually takes a BT a while to settle down seems to be the general consensus, and most of the guys winning the short range matches seem to shoot flat base bullets.

When I shoot the more premier premium ammo I choose these:

Federal Gold Medal 69gr
Prvi Partisan Match 69gr
Remington Premier Match 62gr

1:9 twist for both my 16" and 20" AR's

I handload for my mini-14. Hornady 55 grain spire point, 25.3 grains H4895, Wolf SRM primer, reliably shoots 2" at 100 yards, 5 shots.:) Best part of all, its 20 cents/shot.:D

I use the 100 round bulk Federal 55gr FMJs. They feed well and have never FTE or FTF on me so I use them just fine.

At 1 MOA I would call 'er good.

I personally use 55 grain FMJ. (5.56, full disclosure)

You can still find 1:12 twist barrels. Either used or new from places like White Oak, I believe.

I haven't had any problems with boat tails stabilizing at 100 yards at all. Getting solid sub MOA for five shot groups at 100 with 52s, 69s, and 77s.
