I just recently purchased a XD-40 & am going to use it for CCW & keep my 9mm for home protection for my wife when im not at home.

The ammo I have in my 9mm is WWB JHP. What would be a suitable JHP to use in my XD-40 ??

I use federal hydrashoks 165g in my p99 for carry. Sometimes i run w/ federal JHP "Hishok" 180g

I am sorry i forgot to mention i an using .40 SW

124gr jhp Federal Tactical. I didn't want +p in a cartridge with a history for over penetration.

speer gold dots 155gr in .40
federal 124gr HST in 9mm
remington GS in .380 102gr

Since the AWB sunset... I don't carry the .40 much anymore... as I've been carrying a 9mm with 3 more rounds...

Kimber CDP compact = 185gr. Remington Golden Sabers
Kahr PM9 = 115gr Speer Gold Dot

Various 1911: Remington Golden Sabers, or Federal Hydra Shoks, all in 230gr. Lately I've been carrying golden sabers.

Kahr PM9: 124gr Golden Sabers. I dont carry it often, its mainly a BUG.

Taurus M85: Hydra shoks. Thats about all I can recall about them (I dont carry it very often).

Speer Gold Dot 124gr +P is a good 9mm round and 165 gr GD in 40 are good for personal defense.

Black Hills 124gr +P with the Speer Gold Dot JHP is my primary ammo for 9MM.

.45 ACP is Speer 200gr +P out of a 4" and 230gr Speer Gold Dot JHP out of the 5".

You can't tell that I'm partial to Gold Dot JHP's can you? ;)

In my J frame snubbie I use Speer Gold Dot .38 spcl+P 135gr. GDHP. This is the round Speer designed specifically for snub nose .38s.

Another vote for Speer Gold Dots. I also like the Remington Golden Sabres. But I actually have Gold Dots in my carry gun.

A few street & lab proven examples-

.40S&W-
Federal 180gr LE40T1
Remington 165gr Golden Saber BJHP
Speer 180gr Gold Dot
Winchester Ranger 165gr RA40TA
Winchester Ranger 165gr RA401P
Winchester Ranger 180gr RA40T

In 9mm Speer Gold Dot +P 124 gr, always. It is worth the price, and has performed almost as well as the Ranger T in actual shootings.

For all my guns I like the Speer Gold Dot,all of my .357s are loaded with 158 gr. gold dots, and my wife's 9mm is full of the 124+Ps. When I get a .40 I'll carry 165 gr. Gold Dots.....

Main carry - Kahr PM9 9mm - Win Ranger +P+ 115gr HP
Alternate - Charter Undercover snubbie 38spl - Win +P 158gr LSWCHP
Alternate #2 - Keltec P3AT 380 - Gold Dots or Golden Sabers

.38 Colt Cobra .38spl 110gr Winchester Silvertip HP
.40 Sig 229 155gr Winchester Ranger HP
.45acp Colt Officers 1911 185gr +p Cor-bon Penetrator HP
.357 Dan Wesson model 14 snub nose Winchester 145gr Silvertip HP

You guys carrying .45acp; are you not concerned that the 230 gr's will not over penetrate? I load with a .45 acp 185gr Golden Sabre +p, the.38+p 135 gr Gold Dot in my SP101 and 125 gr .357 mag Gold Dot, Golden Sabre or Hydra Shok in the GP100, 158 gr .357 in the S&W 66.

In .40 S&W I use Federal Hyrdashok 155's. This load develops good velocity, even from a 3.5" bbl, with low muzzle flash.

But I'm thinking about gittin' a box of Double Tap 155 Gold Dots-heard nothing but great about DT ammo.
