Hello, i recall seeing various discussions advising NOT using certain ammo in certain autoloaders, but can't keep it straight.

My wife just bought a Glock 22, .40 cal, to practice before an academy session with the org. she works with. I found the 100 round white box SWC (semi wad cutter i think) to get her started, but didn't want to buy more until i was sure they'd work.

so, a few questions:

  1. Are these rounds ok for her Glock 22?
  2. Is there a better source of .40 cal ammo i can buy for her to practice with?
  3. What kind of ammo is NOT advisable for this Glock, or any other model or caliber Glock?
  4. Is there a source available that lists what kind of ammo is for what, what's to be avoided? or even a tutorial on ammo?

Thank you for any help. FYI, my wife will be shooting with anather more experienced officer, and with an experienced trainer, so she will be able to consult with them. I just want to learn for myself and have enough ammo for their first few sessions.

Winchester WB from Walmart, either 165 or 180 FMJ is what my son's LE class shot for training and qualifying.

I am not aware of any factory fmj or hp ammo that is not perfectly fine for the Glock 22.

Other than the generality often quoted, that lead bullets should not be used in a Glock, I don't recall any warnings or advisements against any other type.
You aren't likely to encounter lead bullets in with factory ammo, so that's kinda of a dead issue.

I personally use whatever's cheapest--usually from Walmart. WWB or yellow box UMC, whatever. No problems with any of it.

My Glock shoots best with 165grn bullets, also I would not shoot lead bullets out of a Glock. Like others have said Mall Wart is a good place for cheaper ammo.

stay away from steel cased ammo. I stay away from Wolf cuz it's kinda dirty.

I just shot a bunch of this out of my 22 yesterday and it was fine. Dirty? Absolutely. But it worked just fine.

Glock will eat any steel cased ammo up and shoot without fail. It is dirty but that is why your Glock comes with a brush and cleaning tool! Clean it and it will be just dandy.
You can't beat the cheap brown bear ammo for the price.

Any quality brand name ammunition should be safe.

You will need to determine what's more or less reliable and accurate in YOUR gun by actually trying it.

I have Winchester Ranger 165gr.(?) in my Glock 22. It's accurate and reliable.
