What ammo would you like to see made?

I guess what I am getting at is there are long standing ammo manufactures that have tremendous economy of scale advantage over you so they have the ability to make the ammo cheaper already. Unless you are only going to deal locally it is going to be hard to go up against that kind of might.
Yeah. That is the reason for this thread, i am looking for things that the major manufactures can't/won't make, or charge too much for. I will "work around" them till (if) i get big enough to directly compete with them.

i think the hard part is getting cheap brass

With a manufactures licnese, i will have access to accounts directly to big distrubtors/manufactures, so i can get everything cheaper. (or a friend who does this same thing has that access...) but then i have to pay .gov part of it, so it will be as if i got it just cheaper rather than a lot cheaper. It is the taxes that makes components so expensive in comparison to what they sell to maunufactures for.

Good point, and at this I will say that you will more than likely find a market for those calibers that dont quite make the cut with the major manufacturers. Some would definitely be 6.5x55, 7mm-08 (your already on that one) 35 Remington, 32 Win Special, 350 Remington Magnum, 25-06, 257 Roberts, and probably many others.

For now, my friends and i are going to focus on rifle and pistol ammo, but maybe later we can start doing shotshells. (just don't have the capital to do it all at once)

8mm mauser, 7.62x54R (once its hard to find), 7.62x39, affordable 5.56, affordable 7.62x51/.308, affordable cheap 9mm

Im not sure there is a feasible way to make 223 and 308 ammo cheaper without adversly effecting accuracy. Whay do people shoot 308s because they like making cloverleafs at long range.

+1 on the MilSurp stuff that is running out or has been out for ages.

M1 Carbine is a good one too.

ammo

Sportsmans, last time I looked, was selling .41 mag for 36 bucks per 20 rounds.
You might want to see if it can be done for less. A lot less.
Saw a box of 50 on the net for 65 dollars.
Kind of rediculous.

I think you'll have a very hard time competing with the big boys on common calibers like .223. A small manufacturer needs to find a niche to fill. Your idea of personal defense loads for 7.62x39 is a good idea, since that's not readily available at this time.

You may have some opportunity with the milsurp rifle crowd. There are a lot of good surplus rifles that are chambered in rounds that are hard to find. The big boys don't produce some of them because the low volume isn't worth it to them. You may be able fill that role,

So I guess you've already applied for your type 06 FFL?
Working on it. I only expect to actually start around summertime.

With the neat bullets that Hornady is making for .17 HMR and M2 rimfire rifles, I would like to see the same style bullet in .22 LR.
I have been wanting the same thing, they have one for the .22WMR, so why not the .22lr? but i can't make stuff like that, don't have the machiines.

So, stuff like .45 colt, .44 special, and .41 mag, and stuff for milsurp rifles? A list of those would be nice, preferably in order of ppopularity.

BTW, how much demand is there for the .300 savage, i am going to be loading personal stufff of that, make it easier to write off costs;):D

It is. It is also on my list. (a insiders secret, the more calibers i make, the more inclined i am to buy a(nother) gun in that caliber...)

and blackpowder loadings for older cartridges too maybe? may want to put up a poll on that though, as fun as BP is, some may not care for the corrosive effects and cleanup time

I don't see BPCR being a viable area for you. In my experience, most guys who own those type of rifles (myself included) load their own, especially the ones who compete with them.

Two come to mind: 41 Special or simply a lower veloctiy/energy version of the 41 magnum. And inexpensive 44 Special loads.

I have .41mag on my list now, i will put a note for lower power loads equivilant to the .41 spcl. Another thing i need is a place to get custom cardboard boxes suitable for putting ammo in. And little plastic holders, like are in wolf packages (different design though), anyone know where i can get either?

How about a HD round in 45/70. There are a lot of lever guns out there. I used to (20 years ago) load 45/38 muzzle loader sabot rounds. I think they check out at about 3500+ fps, can't remember.

Those were just toys. I would think it would take a very specific bullet construction to make it work for HD.
