what are some good brands of ammo for an ak 47 /7.62.39 I have seen ammo surplus ammo [its in a steal can with over 900 rounds from Russia, or is this stuff bad ammo?] I dont want cheap ammo that will mess up my gun
Silver bear, brown bear, golden tiger, are all pretty good. Anything from Barnaul (out of russia) will work. Its steel cased but in an AK you'll be fine. Wolf is decent plinking stuff too, but underpowered. Be careful when purchasing milsurp ammo, it can be corrosive meaning you'll have to clean the rifle hardcore after shooting. Corrosive ammo isn;t something i'd reccomend for a new shooter.
Corrosive ammo was the standard ammo up to roughly twenty to thirty years ago. There's nothing wrong with corrosive, you just have to add a couple of steps in cleaning your firearm.
If your shooting anything but a Yugo, you've got a chrome barrel to help impede corrosion.
I use corrosive now. It's more economical, and I don't mind the extra steps in cleaning them.
Nothing wrong with corrosive ammo. Clean it properly and it won't mess up your weapon. I shoot surplus 54R in my Mosins and surplus 5.45 in my AK74. It's cheap and it works.
Besides, with the way the x39 scene is these days, I wouldn't be too picky.
