I am looking for some ideas to fill out the reading materials in my "throne room". I thought that getting some subscriptions to gun mags would make for a good way to pass the time in there. I already get a copy of American Rifleman each month from the NRA, but I would like more.

I don't really need anything too specialized or specific. I mean, I like everything from pistols, to revolvers, to shotguns, to rifles, to ballistics/ammo... from hunting, to self defense, tactics, to competition, to reloading. So, a good broad-spectrum of coverage is preferred.

What are your favorite gun-related magazines, and why?

Thanks

Guns
American Handgunner
Handloader

Unless they've really changed in a years time I don't see how anyone can recomend Guns&Ammo. Very little usefull info, too many reviews on expensive guns. I'd subscribe to Shooting times before I would Guns&Ammo.

The Rifleman =NRA
Shooting times
Guns + ammo
SOF
And machine gun news -
With Shotgun news for someting to make me upset!! [xyz selling cheeper than I can buy wholesale ]

Which mags offer the most "unsolicited" and "unbiased" reviews?
I have noticed that they all seem to be "advertising" when they review a gun and rarely have anything negative, useful, or constructive to say.

I will have to respectfully disagree with Guns & Ammo. All fluff in my opinion.

Guns .......by far is my favorite. Great writers.

Shooting Times....... trying this one out, not too bad so far.

I have heard good things about Handloader......I need to pick up a copy.

Gun Tests--no ads, just reviews
Small Arms Review--historical stuff & info geared to the Class III community
AmRifleman (mostly since I cannot find how to change the subscription to Am1stFreedom instead).

The rest I can either get online, or scan in the periodicals section of the bookstore. G&A I was reading only for Col Cooper and the On The Border series. Got tired of car reviews same way I got tired of travel reviews in Gourmet, too.

But, I'm biased; others differ.

I recently subscribed to Gun Tests and of the 2 issues I've received, I like it. It's nothing fancy, all black and white, no glossy pictures. But they appear to be pretty straight forward in their assessment of firearms. It even comes with 3 holes pre-punched so you can keep them in a 3-ring binder:confused:

Yep, a target on the opposite wall and a airsoft gun or pellet gun with a trap on the opposite wall sounds like a great addition to the magazine rack. That way one could try things that are being suggested in the magazines.

Gun is a great gun magazine, I have gotten a few issues, and I like them alot.

Lots of good reviews in Gun
