What are the differences between the regular 110 savage and the precision? Obviously they are similar. Looking at building a rifle using a savage 110, but there really isn't a lot on the precision short of the magazine that I really want to keep.

According to the savage site they use s 5r barrel makes to a trued action, an met aluminum chassy so stock is adjustable. Biggest difference is the action being trued. I don't k kw if the 10 rd mags ate proprietary, but probably are.

What specifically is the build for?

The thing about savage actions that help make them accurate is their floating bolt head, it can make up for some imperfections.

An art/vanity build. Target only. I'm a lefty so I wanted to build up a nice 300 win mag bolt. I'll be making my own furniture out of some black walnut I've had sitting around with a 32" barrel. The removable box magazine is also a valued feature.

Pick up a target action, pick your own barrel and stock.

Alternatively, pick up a used run-of-the-mill rifle, sell off everything but the action. Send it off to be trued. Pick your own barrel and stock.

Their 5R barrels may be better than their standard barrels (which aren't bad at all) but a Kreiger, Bartlein et al will be better still (and avaliable in more chamberings).
