Hi, I pretty new to reloading and was wondering what you are usually paying for primers/powder at your local brick and mortar shops. I'm probably going to jump on that Powder Valley Tula special this month, $100 for 5kprimers + $25 hazmat fee, free shipping=$25per 1k. I've only bought primers and powder at one local shop so far and Federal/Winchester primers were both $35 per1k and 1# of W231 was $22. I realize prices vary from place to place but what is the average price everyone else is paying?

It varies considerably from place to place. I've seen Remington small pistol primers in my area at "brick and mortar" stores anywhere from 28.50/thousand to 39.95/thousand.

That's why I buy sleeves of 5000 from my gun club store for under 20/thousand.

Thanks for the reply, I wasn't sure if the price was high at my local shop or not, was gonna do some leg work and hit a few places but it seems the price is about average. Guess I'll be ordering some in bulk online and have to pay hazmat. Are Gun Show prices usually any good?

I'm very lucky. There's a regional distributor in town that sells over the counter at less than retail. I paid $25 a brick for CCI Std Vel 22's and $26 / K for Federal 210 primers.

I cheat -- I buy thru my employer as a wholesale dealer at Sports South... our warehouse is 3 miles from their main warehouse so I have no shipping.

Remember, the Hazmat fee applies to a shipment of a certain size not to one item. Buy more and the Hazmat fee gets spread out over more items.

It seems the application of the Hazmat fee varies a little from vendor to vendor. It should not vary, and maybe I am imagining it. But, verify the vendor's policy before you buy.

I just used my first batch of Tula large pistol primers and the worked fine. The Powder Valley deal sounds reasonable.

Pistol powder cost $12 to $15 per pound, that would be WST and Bullseye. Rifle powder would be $17 per pound for W748. Wolf primers for SP, LP and 223 are $21 per 1,000. All of that includes hazmat and shipping.

Last week's Gun Show I saw primers for $30/1000 for the first time in almost three years. Also saw people asking $39 per thousand.

Powder from $22-29 per pound, depending on who is selling.

I live in the Northeast of PA
Hodgdon powders are $24.95/lb
CCI primers are $28.95/1000
Alliant pistol powders are $18.95/lb

These are local shop prices, the big stores like Gander Mountain are higher, sometimes by a lot.
