Hi all:
I'd like to to get some online website reco's for powder and primers now that things seem to be loosening up. I can get some primers locally but the prices at the only place that has them around here is $15 for 100.
Prices for powder are twice what it used to be a few years ago, but this seems to be the case all over.
It's been a while since I bought online, has the Hazmat fee gone up?

Thanks for replies

I’m not sure that “things are loosening up’. I still have not seen primers on the shelf at my local Sportsmans in 3 +/- years. Sure. I can occasionally order them at elevated prices from MidwayUSA to include an additional hazmat fee but I don’t consider that loosening up.

Until I can walk into Sportsmans or an LGS and see a box of large and small pistol primers and a pound or two of Unique sitting next to them I’m going to continue to classify the light at the end of the reloading tunnel as an oncoming train..

Hazmat is usually $20 and most of the time another $20 in shipping for me.

My most recent primer and powder purchases were on-line bulk purchases made before the shortage. My powder inventory is still ok, but my stash of primers was not as deep. SPP inventory being smallest.

Buying powder in jugs (typically 8#) and selecting powders and loads that have a low cost per round will cut your powder spending in the long run. I went this direction years ago and have never looked back.

I have been following primer prices and they have dropped a good bit just lately. A quick look at https://ammoseek.com/reloading/primers showed me that I can get 5k SPP (I have used Ginex, they work fine) for as low as $0.084 each delivered. Delivered price was closer to $0.12 less than a year ago.

Powder is readily available if you search enough. I just bought 2 lbs of Unique today, I think from MidwayUSA. I’ve seen 2400 several times lately, but not any in the previous 2 years.

Small rifle and small pistol primers are available regularly, if you’re willing to pay the price.

The primer I haven’t seen in 2+ years is Large Rifle Magnum. I’ve been hunting for them for 6 months, unsuccessfully.

Just this week while loading 22-250 and .243, I realized I had less than 2,000 large rifle primers. I mis labeled a brick of CCIs. I thought they were large rifle, but they were actually LRM, CCI 250s.(they changed their packaging) So instead of searching for large rifle magnums, I’ll be searching for large rifle.

You mentioned price. I just opened some IMR 4831 this month. The price on it was $16.97. I think I overpaid for it during the Clinton crisis. Price is relative!

There aren't many deals out there on reloading stuff yet, online or local. A deal these days just means you found it in stock somewhere. ;) I've been pretty diligent through this mess, and have found what I needed at stores I've visited. And I also had a good stockpile of stuff from before Covid/Biden. So I don't know what current hazmat fees are.

Subscribing to the pinned thread in this forum is a good way to keep up on availability and prices.

A week ago MidSouth Shooters Supply ran a Free Shipping sale, They also had a large assortment of powders in stock, including H335 which I've been looking for since I hesitated to buy at a distant LGS a few months ago. In hindsight I probably should have backed up the truck to maximize my 20 dollar HazMat fee, first I've paid in over 2 years. At least I grabbed an 8lb jug of the H335, so that'll last me a while. In any regard, my powder bins are beyond full so, this this better be my last purchase for a while. I'm good with primers for a couple more years.
