What are your OTHER expensive hobbies besides guns?

Insectguy: That's awesome!! Great hobby. I was seriously into butterflies/moths as a kid, had them everywhere, and drove my mom crazy ordering pupae and coccoons by mail and keeping them in tanks in the closet till they emerged.

I also had about two dozen aquariums and bred African Cichlids back in high school. I am now fishless and insectless....took years of therapy to get rid of the last few aquaria last year....no matter where I moved they always appeared somehow in my new house/state. Here in Florida I hooked up with some guys who go collecting in canals and lakes because there are so many non-native species here you can stock aquaria endlessly if you know how to catch things- oscars, plecostomus, peacock bass, killies, tilapia, the list is endless. But I had to go cold turkey....no more.

In my post a few pages back I neglected mentioning cigars and pipes as an expense. And antique books, mostly about Teddy Roosevelt and also old medical and veterinary books and instruments....

Fishing, equipment and boats
Hunting and shooting
Harley Davidson Motorcycles
Scuba Diving

Sometimes it's tough to keep everything going and spend any time with your wife.

My wife, my kids and what you see in the picture:

My wifes Tahoe, our new house on the lake and our boat....son of a gun its expensive!

I am blessed with my (our) posessions, but without a great wife and kids, I have NOTHING.

Rest assured, as a Sales Manager for an Acura store, I work my butt off. I wont have a day off (other than Christmas day) until 2008. I normally only have 2 days a month off (other than Sundays) as it is.

Road Bike racing/rec riding
However I would consider this my hobby, guns are something entirely different.

My other hobby is taking care of my 1970 Porsche 914-6 I've had since 1999.

This includes taking it to car shows...

4x4 trucks. I own right now, three Toyota Land Cruisers, two Jeeps, five Toyota 4x4 trucks, two 4x4 Camrys and two Mitsubishi Mighty Max trucks.

Finding and fixing old machinery/tractors etc. Just can't seem to leave an old airport tug, powered broom, forklift, excavator, lawn mower, etc in the junkyard when I find one.

Guitars. Doesn't sound expensive until you are eying every resonator or Les Paul in sight. Of course, you COULD get along with one or two. But you wouldn't have one for oddball tunings, like DADGAD. You can't hardly get a country twang out of a Les Paul. Strats don't have enough balls for some music. And you can't really play slide until you have a guitar set up just for it. I haven't even started jabberin' about amps and effects.

Computers and video games. I pwn joo nubs at teh interwebs.

Almost got into coin collecting but the bug doesn't seem to be biting. Thank God, I'm poor enough as it is.

Numismatics. (rare coins ).
I collect Morgan silver dollars. (PCGS & NGC certified).
I also enjoy 19th century type coins, some gold, and even some modern bullion coins like silver eagles in BU and proof. Its a wonderful hobby.
I collect edged items as well such as bayonets and knives. I also enjoy older optics, like military binaculars. etc.

Registered Skeet.

The expensive gun is just the license to really start spending money. Travel, entry fees, hotels, and 50,000-60,000 rounds of reloading for two every year.

Scotch. I'm looking at about $330 tied up in the six bottles on my desk right now.

I can't believe I forgot the scotch. My most recent acquisition of note is a
Glenfiddich 21 year old. Got that in December of 06.

No pics handy on my new computer, but I own and fly at Grumman AA5B Tiger, 4 seat, low wing airplane. You wanted exspensive well there you go. Sometimes I wonder about my sanity due to the constantly rising expense.

busy_squirrel: Are you rallying the Hyundai? Thats flippin sweet. More pics of the HD (truck), its flippin sweet too I'm sure. :D

Amateur astronomy. This is a picture of my 20" aperture Teeters reflector up at Spruce Knob, West Virginia.

Motorcycles and Scuba Diving.
I am a NAUI scuba instructor and travel a lot diving around the world. One of my favorite places to dive is off of North Carolina hunting for fossil Megalodon shark teeth.
