I know absolutely nothing about rifles.

I want to learn all about them.

What are some good books you can recommend?

I have "Art of the Rifle" by Cooper, but that is more of a shooting manual than a book about the rifle itself.

I would like to know what "bedding" is (glass bedding?), about different actions, and other technical aspects of the rifle.

Thank you for your help!

:)

Thanks, but I think that would be more of a, well, ......recognition guide.

I'm looking to learn about the technical aspects of rifles; how they work, the different parts, etc.

Not just what the different models look like.

Thanks for the suggestion though. :)

You'll learn alot about all the different kinds of actions from the Janes book. Roller locked, gas operated, gas piston, rotating bolt, bolt action, caseless ammunition yadda yadda. Not all countries build guns the same way. :D

NRA Hunter Safety Class

The NRA Hunter Safety class teaches you just about everything you need to know to get started. I'd recommend that to anybody with an interest in rifles and safety. I took it at age 28 in Arcata, CA and proudly admit I got a 100 on the test.

Boddington has 1 or 2 good books on the rifle. I have "Make it Accurate" but there is another...somebody help me with the title...
Art Alphin's (A-square) "Any Shot You Want" the a-square handloading and rifle maunual- is an EXCELLENT resource if you can find it.

John Olson's Book of the Rifle is pretty good. It's an older volume but a lot of the information is still relevant. It's out of print but there are usually several used copies for sale on amazon.com.

Jack O'Connor has been gone for quite a while but his book, The Hunting Rifle, is still worth a read.

If your library has copies of Gun Digest, or the other annuals, there's a lot of good info in them too.
