What is your favorite book for teaching rifle marksmanship? I have a friend with a young son who likes to read and is having his first hunting season this year. I would like to buy him a book on marksmanship, any suggestions? He's a smart kid so the book does not have to be geared to children.

Jeff Cooper's "The Art of the Rifle". his anecdotes and lessons ar hand in hand with using a rifle properly and "why".
Montana has great gunrights,(I have lived in the Flathead) "BUT" Alaska, is just a slight better with our 'Vermont Conceled Carry" laws, as everything else is quite near the same..........~~LOL!!~~

Caribou, can you purchase a newly manufactured rifle without filling out a Federal form in Alaska? It might be a tie but Alaska has that pesky ammo restriction for shipping. That might put you a step below Montana...............lol

Naw, I cant buy one from an FFL dealer without filling a form and if I go to Montana , like I did a month ago, I still had to buy one and fill the forms. Could be that Im from outta state, though. I know AK and MT have Firearms freedom acts, saying if we dont sell it, transfer it, cross state lines and stamp "Made In AK" on it , were supossed to be "Fed Free" on the laws with guns and the toys folks mount on em....
As well, we can, you can, they can as in anyone who is a resadent or todays fly in, can place a deadly weapon (pistol) into concelement and go freely about their business, as long as they are no felon, just like Vermont.
For class 1 2 and 3 licensing, a Cheif of Law Enforcment Officer 'MUST SIGN" any request for endorsment , if the individual or business qualifys, by law or get sued.
I buy rifles and such all the time from private individuals without paperwork, as well, ammo restrictions are non existant. AK is a "Hunting State" and if its not available, its not made. Ammo from all over the worl, with 1/2 the shelf being "Magnum" this or that, 'cause outta staters seem to like big guns.......usuall close to 80$ a box , nowdays, with "regular" ammo,30-06 say, is about 30-40$ a box.(Gas is near 8$ a gallon here,in comparason)
The only restricions for ammo getting here, besides rediculas prices, is people chargeing me an extra (!!!) fee because they think Alaska is a foreign country, but if they can get it to UPS, I can get it here.~LOL!~ J&G sales in prescott AZ is awsome, Im a bulk buyer.
We also have some bad stuff, as in alcohol being banned in our borough, but "Privacy laws" and a person can do what they like in their home, brew it, grow it, smoke it, whatever, as long as it dont infringe on others, but last month I was pleased to see this in MT, quite the advancement in Individual Rights;

Anyway,if I were starting out a newbie or a kid, Id tell 'em besides reading a book or two on "How To shoot a gun" , LEARN YOUR LAWS AND DUTIES!!
Id tell em They are an armed and soon to be trained U.S. Citizen, you must learn, practise,learn, practise, ,learn, practise, practise, practise, practise!!!!! Practise with your gun, practise your rights, get up on the laws, the mechanics, how to properly hord ammo, how to keep the Rifle clean, the psycology of owning a gun, be a Free Man and look through the eyes of the psycotic inner animal (we are tool using Monkeys) and become one with "THE TOOL" Grass Hopper.
Keep you powder dry, your Rifle clean and your skills sharp.
