Dad shoots at computer, saying son spends too much time playing games

Dunedin, Florida - A Dunedin dad probably made his point about his son spending too much time on the computer. Pinellas Sheriff's deputies say he shot at the monitor as his son sat near-by. Forty-four-year-old Joseph Langenderfer was arrested Monday afternoon at his home on Frances Street.

His 22-year-old son Tim called 911, saying he and his dad were arguing and his dad had just shot at him.

The older Langenderfer reportedly told deputies he was mad that his son had not done the laundry and was spending all his time playing games on their computer. He told deputies that although he told his son he was going to shoot the computer, the gun accidentally fired.

The bullet hit the wall about three feet from where the son was sitting.

Langenderfer is in the Pinellas County jail charged with one count of attempted murder, (accused of trying to kill his son, not the computer.)

Strikes me as a pretty extreme means of getting the offspring off the computer. ;)

Some kids who live at home & mooch off their parents make those of us who live at home & can't afford to move out because they are sinking their resources into their own enterprises look bad:mad: . At least I still help out around the house.

The only thing worse than shooting at your son's computer is shooting at your son's computer and missing.

I actually have a much easier system than this. If either of my two sons miss a homework assignment or fail to get their daily chores done, I just turn off the wireless router. That cuts both of them out of the network and off of the web without any firearms having to be discharged at all.

Apparently his dad did not at all grasp the concept of first-person-shooter games. :D

Hope he doesn't try GTA next. "Father arrested for carjacking, running over prostitutes..."

Hey, I'm about that age, and I still live at home...

However I also work full time, am attending college, and pay all my own bills... Working on getting my own place though.

Can't beat home cooking...I'll miss it.

Not sure about what caliber for PCs but for laptops a few rounds of 00 Buck and a mag of .40 S&W work :p

Hey us I.T. guys gotta blow off steam too. I like the wad stuck in the screen.

I never found all the keys.
We don't have a problem with people playing games here

attemped murder by "fanny".. the father made a legitament statement that he was going to shoot the computer so his son better move! essentially, the son could have avoided the confrontation just by stepping away, but chose to remain in harms way.. kinda like standing in front of a train..

PS: i dont think the gun discharged accidently

Dunedin, huh??????

Sheesh...you'd almost think the story was about me!!!
Actually, I had to stay in a run-down motel about a block away from there for a week or so during remodeling. One night we were watching TV and heard 2 or 3 gunshots followed by a bunch of sirens. I guess every town has it's ghetto......

Someone has to say it...

i nominate the 'father' ( and i use that word rather loosely in his case ) for the moron-of-the-month award, which should make him a finalist for the *******-of-the-year trophy, not only when it comes to being a parent, but for helping the Brady-bunch in their arguments re: RKBA issues. While some kids can turn out to be the poster child for pro-abortion arguments, in this case the reverse is true.
