CLP users: what copper solvent / bore cleaner do you use, before applying your standard Breakfree oil?

I have a new rifle that I'm going to break in using a shoot/clean/shoot/repeat type method, removing all copper between shots.

Thank You,

Don't put teflon/breakfree down a perfectly good barrel.

Butch's Bore Shine.

FYI, you see VERY LITTLE hoppes used at benchrest matches, and it's almost always newbies or folks who are less than serious about winning - a clean barrel is a consistent barrel.

Darn fine handgun or .22 solvent tho.

Whenever I need to get something really clean I use Shooter's Choice.

As Bogie said, I use Hoppes #9 for handgun/.22LR. I also use it for just cleaning up powder/soot/carbon with a cloth/q-tip whatever.

I also have some Hoppes Benchrest which smells like Shooter's Choice, but I find that Shooter's Choice gets the job done better.

I can clean a bore with Hoppes#9, pushing out clean patches. Then I can run some Shooter's Choice down and it will come out dirty again. That tells you something.

I'll have to give Butch's Bore shine a try.

Until BBS was introduced by Butch Fisher, Sal's Shooter's Choice was _the_ solvent to use in benchrest... If something doesn't work, it doesn't get used. If something works better, it gets used more.

TM's solvent (available through www.sinclairintl.com) has been doing pretty well in the .22 arena.

Disclaimer: I know all three of them.

Good to know. I am almost out of Shooter's Choice. I'll have to pick up some BBS. The Hoppe's Benchrest is almost full, the Shooter's Choice just works better.

A non-toxic, biodegradable answer is BoreTech's "Eliminator".

I've switched from Shooters Choice and have no regrets.

Montana X-Treme Copper Killer .50 BMG Formula. Be sure to get a nylon bore brush to use with it.
