I joined this here fine group of folks a while back to learn about the maken's of BP. I had just finished a couple of cannons and had realized the cost of their appetite for BP. Then I got caught up reading and lern'n all sort of awesome stuff about the folks and thar guns. Damn! I had no idea! You folks are truly amazing! I got the bug and knew I had to have something other than my cannons. Now, because of the THR my prize and joy is a replica .50 flinter. This got me to wondering what the rest of you may have bought and blame the THR for? Oh, and I enjoy the fact that I can blame the purchase on the THR when my motives are questioned by my Darling Wife. I would like to repost the pic of this fine shoot'n gun but I guess your not supposed to. And I know all of you know exactly what it looks like anyway. What did you buy?

Black powder. The real stuff I mean.

"Back in the day" I bought fffg from time to time, but when I couldn't find more locally I switched to 777. Then someone on THR buying it from a dealer in New Mexico. Money later I had what I thought was a lifetime supply of powder. Then that was running thin so more money.

A Pietta 1958 Rem in the BST section. Probably wouldn't have a BP pistol otherwise. Glad it is in the safe.

this is an expensive site:)
bought a walker and I feel like a kid in a candy store with all the suggestions on what makes a perfect shooting experience

In addition to my Pietta '58 NMA Rem, these hooligans held me at gunpoint and made me buy a 1911, and half my reloading gear. Their brutishness also caused a Magnetospeed Sporter to show up in my mailbox this afternoon, too!
Animals.

Someone ALWAYS posts those Cabela's sales.:banghead: I haven't bought anything I haven't liked, though. :D

We rode down to Goliad today. I was wanting to go somewhere and the wife had never seen Presidio La Bahia or the battle grounds there.

At the Presidio, I found this baby, thought you might like a look. Supposedly it was used there, perhaps at the battle of Coleto Creek. I'm sure the carriage is new, but it's built to period. Not sure what the size is, but the bore was about fist size. They had some grape shot found around the battle field, too. Ouch.

That's hallowed ground for a Texan. I always choke up when I'm there. It's an emotional experience.

I came to THR as a complete newbie and knew essentially nothing.
So THR strong armed me into getting: my pistols, my rifles, my shotguns, the ammo they eat, holsters, belts, and a gun safe.:D

I purposely ignore you guys and your BP posts because I don't want to know about it. It is old, archaic and looks to be no fun at all:)

Seriously though, it was the posts about casting bullets that forced me to buy casting equipment. It was the posts about powder coating that strong armed me into getting powder coating equipment and it was all of the lever action and revolver threads that drained my bank account.

When I get that built back up again, I will start reading the BP posts again. I am pretty convinced that will be my next money sucker:)

OH Yeah! Cannon pic! It's just amazing how even a pic of a cannon makes your life better! Thx's Mcgunner!

My arm still hurts from all the twisting!!!

Thanks to everyone on THR for showing me all the things I could not live without.

Goonworks already has my Walker and will be getting my orphan make 1860 Army. Both of those and the attendant re-working plus all of the gadgets, gimcrackery and just plain fun that goes with Blackpowder, I lay at the door of THR ;o) The coming purchase of a Colt Dragoon is THR's fault as well!
regards!

A keyboard. Every once in a while some of the stuff I read results in beer being shot out my nose. Monitors have done okay so far.:neener:

All of you folks on this board have piqued my interest about many BP C&B pistols, and I have learned a lot.

My keyboard must have some drool on it when I read many of the posts here.

If all goes well, I have just purchased on a GB auction an Italian-made Replica Arms 1848/1849 Pocket Pistol: with load-lever, squareback TG, 5.5" barrel, .31 cal., for $275 + $20 shipping. DGW is selling the same thing but with a round TG (and no manufacturer is selling a squareback TG for an 1848/1849) for $340 plus shipping, and as I am fond of squareback TG pistols I could not resist. It will be a baby brother to my Pietta 1851 Navy steel .36 squareback 2nd Model replica (as seen on the thumbnail) once I get a case for them.

Good evening to you all.

Dang it, J-Bar! You just HAD to bring up that S&W thread, didn't you! Now, after I feed the cayuses breakfast; I'll have to pull out our little pile of Smithy's and start oiling them! Then it will be time for the NMA's and the "fake '58".
The li'l Mrs is gonna be so irritated that I haven't gotten to her honey-do list by lunchtime.....

Oh well, I'l just spend extra time shining the nickle finish on her 13-3. Maybe even dab a little tung oil on the Monogrip and rub it in...
