What did you shoot today?

I took the same 1941 VKT that I shot on Friday but also my 1942 VKT this morning. 1955 Romanian Surplus that is about gone. My goal is to use up all my surplus ammo while I can still shoot.

Took a friend to the local club. His first experience shooting with a suppressor. I brought a Savage M10 FPSR in 223 Rem.

Before I took him I said "Once you shoot with a can, you will never want to shoot without one again." After his third shot, he turned around to me with a big grin - "I gotta get me some of these..."

I think I just cost him about 3 grand. His wife is gonna throw stuff at me when next I visit. Hard stuff, with edges and sharp corners.

I did warn him...

Hahahaha I love it!!

awful photo. But I tested zero on my dad’s traditions buckstalker inline. Then I fiddled with getting my CVA Accura LRX zeroed; that
turned a bit frustrating tbh. Then I broke out my 308 project: IMG_2792.jpeg
The new break(not pictured) definitely reduces recoil. And test ladders were definitely satisfactory.

Muzzleloader opens next Monday, so today it was time to check zero at a couple different distances, (50 & 100 yds.) on the CVA Accura 50 cal. inline. Also fired it with 2 different propellants, my usual Pyrodex and for the first time; IMR White Hots, both in 50 gr. equivalent pre-formed charges. 2 of which = 100 grs., which seems to be a good load in this gun without stepping up to a 150 gr. load which the owner's manual calls a "magnum load". Did real good with both and I will be confident hunting with either one. Had the whole rifle range to myself until 11 a.m.. 20231206_110243.jpg .. Then I stopped at one of the pistol bays on the way out and discovered that the latest 44 magnum load for the Ruger Redhawk only needed 3 clicks down on elevation to be where I wanted it. Was done by 12:30 and left just before more snow started coming down. It was a good day in that everything went well and there was none of that scope adjustment frustration or other problems that sometimes pop up on a trip to the range. Last 2 rounds with the 44 put a couple 240 gr. Hornady XTP's about 2 to 2.5 inches high at 30 yards, which will be nice for the spot where I bring the Redhawk, where it's so thick I can't even think about shooting a deer past 40-45 lasered yards. 12-6-23 L19 30 yd-4.jpg . Now if I could just get those crosshairs on deer instead of paper...... IMG_5551.JPG .

This Google image is identical, other than the carry handle.
Have tried it now twice after its return from the best FAL gun smith in the US (Mark Graham owns ARS/ Arizona Response Systems): Aussie L1A1 on Imbel upper, a "Century L1A1 Sporter" build. Yes, I'm very well aware of the Century context.;)😒

Since it was returned from Mark in Arizona, it certainly works as it should and is my favorite gun. He even included the Test Target. Along with burrs in forward threads on the gas Tube (had a Very bad leak),
-----Mark discovered that the rifle was Missing the barrel Washer !

I shot my 6” S&W Model 14-3 .38 Spl., my CZ 97B .45 and CZ Shadow 2 9mm. (I brought my Ruger Mk IV, but I forgot to grab a box of ammo. 🤪)

I just played around a bit; I turned a B-27 around so the blank side faced me and ran it out to 7 yards. I would shoot one .45 shot into the paper, then shoot either the Shadow or Model 14, trying to put the second (and any subsequent) shot(s) through the .45 hole.

When i missed by enough, i would start again with a new .45 shot. 😆 (I can get roughly 15-18 .45 holes on a B-27 if I am careful.)

Stay safe.

Even without a range bag, it's easy to always keep my hearing/eye protection in the car, plus a few boxes of any ammo which might be needed.
All I do is grab 1-2 rifles and when in the garage, ready to leave, simply double check 7.62x39 and / or .308 ammo kept in the car's ammo can.

My main rifle targets are clay pigeons (--placed on berms--:)), and if mine are used up, a few can always be found on the skeet ranges of Both private clubs I belong to.

Forgot to mention that I shot about 80 rounds in above session and had a lot of failure to feed problems, maybe 8 to 10 total. This was PPU FMJ and the guy at the GS said that I need a round with more power and should be using lead round nose as that is what the gun was made for, so I grabbed two boxes of Magtech LRN to try next time.

I hope you like it as much as I like mine. I need another .32 day at the range soon.

I enjoyed mine very much today and there is virtually no muzzle lift on the .32 ACP.
So yours locks back I see. Mine will not stay. It pops out and snaps back.

I also had my first ever hot brass down the back of my shirt and had to do the hot brass dance. No fun.

Today was a bigger than normal shooting day. Pistol match tomorrow morning so I did my last practice. Smith 52, Smith 41, Smith Shield and a Winchester 92 I am rebuilding. Great way to spend a nice morning. Temp got up to 80 today, really nice day for mid December. Of course a norther is coming in tonight, supposed to be 45 and very windy in the morning. Such is Texas weather.

Today was Small Gun Monday. (I was going to call it Mouse Gun Monday, but I was shooting mostly 9mm’s and not .22’s, .25’s, 32’s, etc. )
In 9mm I brought the Kimber Micro 9, which I had just redid the springs with a M*CARBO kit, a Glock 43X with a Primary Arms dot, a Kimber Ultra Carry II 3” 1911, a CZ 2075 RAMI, and then a Ruger LCP II in .380 ACP.

Plain old B-27 targets, shooting 14 shots @5 yds, 7 @10 and 7 @15. Ammo was Ammo inc 100 gr fmj .380 and Blazer 124 gr fmj 9mm.

IMG_3757.jpeg

LCP II was up first, its been quite a while since I have shot this little gun. I chunked a couple of .380’s at 15 into out in the 9 and one booted out to the 7. Those micro sights are not easy to use, even with the front painted orange.

IMG_3760.jpeg

Micro 9 was next. This gun shot really well, the trigger is just under 5 lbs now, down from 8 lbs from the factory. My one beef with this gun is that it always shoots really high. At 5 almost everything went into the hole at the top of the X while holding below the X, as the target moved out the shots went higher. At 15 I saw the group forming way high and moved my front sight lower to bring the last shot closer to the red X. I think I will reach out to Kimber to try and buy a taller front sight.

IMG_3763.jpeg

I stuck to the SA auto and shot the Kimber UC2. This gun also shoots a bit high for me, it started doing the same at 15 until I brought it down more. I may buy a taller sight for this one, too.

IMG_3764.jpeg

CZ RAMI was next. First shot DA with each mag, the rest SA. Even with only enough room for two fingers on the grip and the pinky curled under the baseplate, the RAMI shoots pretty darn well. (Man, I love shooting CZ 9mm’s!)

IMG_3765.jpeg

I then finished with the 43X wearing the dot. The dot sight is, compared to the others and my 56 year-old-eyes, almost like cheating.

A couple of guys pounding away with a .44 Mag a few lanes over wandered by after I pulled this in on the carrier and asked about the gun i was shooting.

They were pretty surprised to see I was shooting well with a compact barreled gun, and neither had ever tried out a dot. So I sent out another target at 5 yds, loaded up a couple of mags and let them try the dot.

Both put their shots in the 9-10, and walked away saying that adding a dot to one or two of their own autos will be something that will probably be done soon.

I have been a few times since my last report but I am bad at internetting sometimes.

Today I told my 6th grade son and his compadre to skip the bus and walk to the park so I could get control of them faster and they jumped in and we went to the range. Met his friends dad there(my friend too). Shot skeet for about 30 minutes then put a box of .380 into paper.

Skeet was shot with my Benelli 20 montefeltro with a youth stock and some Turkish over under my buddy had. The .380 was an EZ I specifically bought to teach my kids how to shoot a semi auto pistol. Unfortunately my son has some prolonged soreness in his elbow(baseball) and didnt like the .380, but he and his buddy were shockingly good with the shotgun. We were actually quite amazed at how good they both were at it. Strong athletic boys pick that up pretty quick. It was a fun evening.

The S.A. M1A Standard, but with reduced light at 3:00 PM, the tiny aperture (& its dark gray metal) made it a challenge to try to align the front post's tip in the center.o_O

Finally, my Aussie FAL's front post sight was rotated about 4-5 complete 360* turns upward, to mostly prevent shooting high at 100 yards. Before this adjustment;), it had shot about 6" or so above a bullsye.
The FAL's much Larger rear aperture  allows much easier shooting with reduced light in the wintertime in the mid-afternoon.
^^^^ The rifle image pasted into Post #2558 is identical with mine. Technically it is a "Century L1A1 Sporter", but luckily has the Imbel 🇧🇷 (Brazilian) upper receiver. These are identified with certain serial #s on the Upper.

VZ-58 🇨🇿, imported by Czechpoint. Over 4,000 rds., perfect function: mostly it has used the pair of Czech polymer magazines. I keep a piece of every used ammo cardboard box in a bag, staple, and count them.
Cleaning + lubing is with Ballistol, plus extra lube with thin smears of Mobil One reddish grease in the receiver.

Went to check on the land today. Brought my Ruger GSR and HK45. My wife and I did a walk in the back near the property line. Always carry during hunting season, never know who’ll you’ll meet. Nice walk. When I was done rang the gong at 200 with the GSR and then shot a bunch out of the HK45 at some swinging targets. Fun time.

Took the CZ Shadow 2, Kimber Stainless Target II and Glock 19X to the range for some dissimilar auto play today. Ammo was a mish-mosh of Blazer and Win 124 gr fmj and Fiocchi 115 fmj.

I spent the hour shooting NRA 10M air rifle targets at 7-8 yards, one shot per 1.5” bull (12 bullseyes per sheet). I was just working on getting/maintaining a consistent sight picture. Its a fun exercise that quickly shows a miss when you snatch at the trigger or start to get antsy.

I ended the day shooting some old 25 foot airgun targets I had laying around. (Bull is about 3/4”) I shot 6 from each gun, firing one after the other at 7 yards. Glock was a bit harder to hit with today, and I didn't shoot the Shadow 2 as well as I can. Kimber was very consistent. :D

This...

1703209873537.jpeg

My S.A. Saint Edge 223 Wylde.
(on top of an aluminum table my Dad built 4 or 5 decades ago)
Easy to throw in the back of my truck!

1703210005535.jpeg

Used a 50' reduction target at 25 yards.
One can see how I worked my way to the bullseye.
That was fun!

1703210208649.jpeg

Then I stapled my 3 cent target on top and drilled a few more home for good measure.

Now I can move back to 100 yards or whatever and see how I do.

I went to the range today with the intention of verifying zero on my 22-250, but it was so foggy that the 200 yard target was invisible. So I shot a 22 rifle to verify zero and then shoot offhand practice at 50 yards. I also ran 6 magazines through my SA XD40, which is my bedside gun, and 10 mags through a Ruger MKII .22lr pistol.
