Check the sections for congressional and state watch. They have been on vacation and overall I have little hope for anything productive getting done.

As for open carry, a search of this and other sites will turn up many folks who figure you will get nailed for disturbing the peace or something.

I live in the southern part of ohio and avoid the cities. Cincy has some silly gun laws that are for the city limits. I think columbus and some other cities also have some gun laws for those areas. And as I recall some of the laws are involving california stuff like registration. I am really fuzzy on this since I no longer travel north, learning the laws for up there made me feel safer when heading south.

Some others will be along with more info. There is a group here that is involved in the ohio ccw stuff and sends emails and what not, I think they send emails.

That sucks man. My wife will be graduating med school and starting residency in less than a year. I've pretty much told her we stay in good ol' conservative TX or possibly Arizona. I've already got CHL here anyway.

Unfortunately, it isn't going to happen for a long while, if at all.

biere is right about the weird city ordinances. Check them before you decide on a place to live. They can vary from township to township. A thirty round mag is legal to own where I live, but not legal three miles from here. You need a Columbus City permit to buy a gun from a dealer in Columbus proper, but not from a dealer in a township that is completely surrounded by the city of Columbus. Strange stuff. And even stranger in Toledo and other cities.

The Ohio CCW law is probably toast. The state senate f***ed it up with a bunch of revisions that include conditions such as no CCW in a car, open carry only...but not if there is a child under the age of 18 in the car with you. Open carry is "permitted" technically speaking, but gun transportation laws require that the gun not be loaded or accessible by the driver...so you can carry openly within walking distance of your home. Our best hope (for what it's worth) is the Ohio Supreme Court which is considering an appeal, which, if ruled on according to the Ohio Constitution would essentially create a Vermont-like carry status...oh to dream.

NO CCW in Ohio yet. We were very close this year, with a decent CCW bill, [decent, but not great] passed by the Ohio house, then it got all trashed by the Ohio Spineless Senate, with help from Guv. Boobie "Flip. Flop. Which way is the wind blowing NOW?" Daft. Not to mention opposition from the Ohio Hiway Patrol & the FOP. [BTW, Ohio Hiway Patrol, what is that logo? ? ? A winged flying Doughnut? ? ? ? ? ]

You could TRY open carry, but in the big cities (Cleve, Columbus, Cincy, etc) you would probably get busted in less than 5 minutes for inducing panic, disturbing the peace, inciting a riot, or some other entirely bogus BS charge.

Some cities (Like Cleveland) have various registrations thingys. Don't live in Cleve/Cuyahoga county, so I am not 100% certain.

You can find out more than I can tell you in this forum by visitng the website:

www.ohioccw.org

The site Lennyjoe mentioned [http://www.ofcc.net/] is a part of the Ohioccw.org group

open carry....it would be ill advised to try it in ohio.inducing panic would be the very least of your worries when some panic induced-helpful citizen reports a man walking around with a sidearm.things can get out of control very quickly, stories exaggerated and all that good stuff.

My neighbors tell me that just before I moved here (Canton), that a man was arrested for carrying a BB pistol on his belt while walking his dog. They said that somebody must have called the police and about 6 squads came flying up through the alleys and peoples yards. Dont know haow accurate the story is, I live around a bunch of exaggerators (sp?).

I wish I had video taped all the Columbus city council Democrats last year when they were all saying that we don't need CCW since it is perfectly legal to carry OWB everywhere. Right!

If all else fails, you can buy a rose colored bellybutton lens so you can see the world as they do.

Don't envy you the transfer.

Good luck.
