What do you guys think of the FNAR?

cooks 7, I just sent you a PM and I don't think he'll make a fortune off FNAR magazines ... he only carries them as a service since he's sold a couple of FNARs over the last six months or so. I almost bought one but decided on an M1A and FAL instead.

I noticed that those FNAR magazines are heavy ... they must sell them loaded or something.

:)
They are heavy. I think the bottom is lined with about a 1/2" of gold.

I knew a few guys who are getting sub MOA with match ammo or reloads in their FNARs. I am getting right at 1" with Hornady AMAX match ammo. I am sure a btter shooter could get better groups with my FNAR.

I've yet to actually see one of these things in action. That is, getting the kind of accuracy they're sold as being capable of. If anyone here owns one, care to make a video for youtube?

just bought a FNAR heavy Barrel, I shot sub moa at 100 yards consistantly with a really cheap scope I thought would fall apart A BSA was 100 bucks.

I really thought i wanted a LR 308 DPMS but if you go to their forum you will find nothing but problems the my dealer let me shoot the one I wanted and the deal was if I didnt like it are it screwed up i would buy the FNAR well we couldnt shoot 3 rounds from this thing one problem after the other finnally a emty stuck in the chamber thee owner said box it up send it back, I couldnt see buying AR-10 when they have a 2 moa for over $1500 i got this for $1440 with harris by pod, it is a tack driver.

I'll be at the range in a few days for the WTA shoot on the 5th. I'll try and shoot some video of my FNAR.

I got a couple of photos at the WTA shoot (BTW it was freakin' cold):

I'm not a very good shot, but I'll post my target anyway. This is @ 100 yards with gloves on, several layers of clothing, windy and cold (in the teens), and cheap factory ammo.

I did get some video too but it is from a bad angle. I'll post it if I get a request, but it's not very informative.

Great post SuperNaut. That's exactly the kind of thing I'm looking for. Given all the negatives you had listed (windy, cold, layers of clothing, etc) I was expecting 2 inch groups. If that's the target I think it is then I'm guessing you held those shots to just under one inch?

nice, wish i could take mine from my phone there almost one hole 3 and 4 shot group in the rain

There has been a FNAR Rifle on the shelf at a dealer nearby for over a year now.

Right...and why you ask...expensive and what do you get...a semi-auto .308 settin' in a pistol grip stock! That's it, nothing fancy....

We sold several during the height of the Obama AR-B-Gone scare. Haven't sold one since!

They are fairly well built, and as I understand, just as accurate as anything else out there. I think if you were going to hunt with a semi-auto 308, this would be the one to use.

When I zeroed my scope it was quite a bit warmer (early this fall), and I was getting sub MOA. I don't expect anyone to believe that without pics, but you'll have to wait 'till it warms up a bit for proof. :)

Honestly, I think the accuracy is there, I'm just not good enough to get consistent results. As you can probably guess by that flyer on the lower right from my previous 3 shots! BTW, for that target I shot 3 then 3 then 3, the single dot to the right of the bullseye is actually covering 2 holes.

What makes me dig this rifle isn't just the accuracy, it is the mild recoil. I don't know enough about the design yet to be able to determine what soaks up the recoil, but it sure does. I'd like to see what this gun can do in the hands of a real LR shooter.

p.s. I couldn't figure out what the side rails on the FNAR were for, so I just took 'em off - for those who might be wondering.

My dad bought one last year, its pretty cool, but with bipod and scope, its weighs in at about 11 lbs. Pretty much a tank. It does tame the recoil down nicely and makes a nice target rifle out to 600 meters, imo. With cheapo Remington Core-Lokt's, 150 grain, he's getting 1.5" at 100 yards off the bench. FN guarantee's 1" at 100 yards with match ammo, I think it'll do it.

I also have one (heavy barrel), and all I've done to it was put on a cheapo burris shotgun scope to sight it in and see if it lived up to it's MOA claim.

I can say with a sandbag, a $50 dollar 1.5-4.5x scope (plex reticle) and both winchester super x 150gr and federal GMM 168gr I can do sub moa from 50yds+ out to around 250 yds (inside of 50 yds and over 250 I was getting shaky, my fault, not the gun)

It will do the job as a precision rifle of you give it the trigger time. Also, if you feel you have accuracy problems, you can send it to FN and they will go over your rifle, test fire it three times, and send you back the target and the shells to prove it does MOA or better.

Not bad for a ~1300-1500 dollar gun out of the box.
