I shoot a lot of reduced loads in .357, mostly 148gr HBWC. My other target load would be some 220 gr plated bullets in .41 mag. I find these ideal for practicing. When it’s time to go hunting I start practicing with my hunting loads and get prepared.

Uh I think "all of the above" would be my answer. I shoot some for target with light loads and some full magnums when I feel the meed for a thumper as well as in the middle loads all about equally. Mostly depends on the revolver I am using at the moment. But I find I mostly shoot 44 over 357. Because it's more fun with a bigger bullet.:D I am actually edging up on my round counts with the 45 Colt and Ruger only loads as often as not lately.:p

My 41's are for hunting so they get full power heavy cast loads . My 357's are for uninvited guests & other two-legged threats so they get full bore JHP loads . I've got 38 specials for plinking & small pests control .

For the magnums you mentioned, I shoot full power loads. I take 100-200 fps off max in the 454 and 475 because that is where it stops being comfortable. Sometimes paper for practice, but hunting is the main purpose, so I like to keep the power levels up.

Own nothing in .44 Mag currently, but in my .357s (all older S&Ws) I shoot a lot of 158 gr lead SWCs but always try to shoot a few cylinders of full-house 158 gr JHPs through each for speed and accuracy as I like to keep a Model 19 or 686 loaded up for a home/property defense situation ...

When I was a lot younger, I shot about 99% magnum ammo in my Magnum revolvers. So much so, that I wore out my early S&W Model 66 revolver. My local gunsmith was able to resurrect it a couple of times, but the third time, he told me he could do no more and it would have to go back to S&W. S&W replaced everything except the frame and side plate. It's life was much easier after that . It never got shot much afterwards, and I still have the old gun. Now days, if I shoot a .357 revolver, it's usually with .38 Spcl. ammo.

I pretty much load all of my magnums like, well, magnums. My favorite factory offering for the .44 Magnum is Double Tap's 320 grain WFN loading. Accurate and terminally effective.

Hey, if I wanted to shoot something lighter, I'd grab a 9mm.

While I’ve owned dozens of handguns, the only Magnum I own today is a 4” SP-101 in .32 H&R Magnum. I don’t shoot factory loads, the Ruger and the brass can easily take more pressure. The majority of my handloads easily exceed factory ballistics, usually 100s at 1200 fps. Brass lasts forever and the pistol doesn’t know the difference.

Mine have had more magnum loads, although it has seen a few spl's. I like the magnum loads better.
