Thinking of Ditching the 357 Magnum

Maybe I should start taking something to the garden with me. No telling when I may be challenged by a green bean or hot pepper. Making such an example of one of them will keep the rest of the vegetables in line.

For some reason the thought of how the Three Stooges used dynamite to problem solve came to mind. ;)

I've thought about it, but my .357 is my home defense gun. It's a 3" SP-101, on which I did a home tune.
I don't like shooting full power factory magnums. It's just unpleasant and a waste of powder, since half if it burns out the end of the muzzle.
I do like my old 38 +P level handloads in magnum cases with a fast-burning powder.

I do have have a Ruger Redhawk in 44 with the 7.5" barrel, but it's too big and long for home defense. Might as well get a carbine, at that point.
I also have a S&W 625 in 45 ACP with a 5" barrel, but it's too big also. (won't fit in my lock box)

I'll keep the SP-101 as a possible CCW and on home defense duty in the meantime.

This reminds me; I need to find the moon clips for the 625...

Oh, one more thing: If you don't like .357 in a revolver, it is a VERY nice round for a lever action carbine. We can actually milk the benefit of the slower-burning powder and get another 400 fps out of it. I think they shoot over 2,000 fps out of a lever gun, right? Would be a great deer gun or home defense carbine in lieu of an AR15.
