What do you think of "Untuckit" shirts for concealed carry?

Polo or golf shirts work well. Cooler seasons an athletic hoodie or light jacket. Those untuckits look too tailored for CCW.

I don't have to buy a special shirt in order to not tuck it in, particularly not one that costs nearly 100 bucks.

Look up "guayabara" - I think someone on this thread called it a "Miami shirt". Essentially it's a short or long sleeved lightweight cotton shirt designed to be a bit loose fitting (like a hawaian shirt) and not tucked in. When I first saw one in 1971 I thought I was looking at a fancy barber's work shirt... They come with four pockets in front (and if you buy one size larger than normal you can wear a big, heavy level IIIa vest underneath...

In the years when I carried a sidearm 24-7 (1973 - 1995) and it was hot out that was the shirt of choice... To put it mildly you could carry an arsenal under one if you made sure you bought one large enough - and down here in south Florida it was pretty much accepted as "semi-dressy". I even wore one at occasional court appearances without a raised eyebrow from whoever was in charge that day... With a guayabera you had your choice of inside waistband or exposed waistband carry (and if you needed to be seriously concealed an ankle carry while wearing a guayabera was just the ticket -folks in the know would check out your waistband area - then not think to check your ankle after they noted no weapon in your waistband..).

In colder weather a guayabara isn't very practical at all - but then you have a jacket or something similar instead for concealment (and keeping warm). By the way I did see the "untuckit" ads -and tried not to laugh. I suppose follks in the big city just haven't a clue how everyone else lives....

ps... Guayabara shirts are cheap (quite cheap - although you can find handmade ones if it suits your wallet....), but they will need to be ironed to be worn among polite company...

As others said, if you care about fashion and how you present yourself, then understand fashion and how to put together an outfit that fits you and fits the situation you'll be in.

A traditional round-tail button down shirt is designed to be tucked into pants and DOES look sloppy, slobby, and obvious when left untucked. Around the farm or at the local country bar that's probably no big deal, but it isn't a finished look.

A "camp shirt", "Miami shirt," or "Guayabera" has a hemmed, squared tail and is designed to be worn untucked, like a light jacket or uniform blouse. It's too much tail to be comfortably tucked in anyway -- that's why dress shirts are cut the way they are.

If you're in an area where nobody ever dresses like that, and you think (and care) that you'll stand out, try a tuckable holster or a sport coat.

I live in the Upper Midwest so a sports coat works fine.. and no,, it isn’t plaid,, Usually a nice light tan like tolvo’s picture.

Barred from Walmart, of course.

Bought one = FAR too small for real men.

If your thin, and or metro sexual, they will most likely fit.

I like the idea but they look a bit tight around the waist. There is a store near me and I have planned on checking them out while wearing my IWB snubbie.

Both assessments of Untuckit shirts are spot on. My wife bought me three different varieties for my birthday not that long ago. They run small with a very noticeable taper towards the waist. If you're thin and athletic with washboard abs, you may be able to get away with wearing these shirts while carrying. Otherwise, they'll print like crazy.

Entropy.... it was a joke. There are loads of funny pictures of the ‘people of Walmart’ and what they wear.
Don’t see anybody wearing sport coats.
I have several nice looking one, none plaid, that I got off EBay for less than thirty bucks, and they are brand name coats.
An added benefit that surprises me is the number of ladies, young or middle aged that compliment me on ‘looking nice’ and say they wish they could get their dad (or grandpa) to dress nicer....It’s usually “since he retired, he just doesn’t seem to care how he looks”

I just get Aloha shirts at the Goodwill store and wear them over a regular T shirt. Loose, comfortable and, for an old fa#t like me, "stylish... :)
Besides, Tuesdays are Senior Discount day. ;)

This ^^^

Don't ask me how I know . . .

Camp, aloha, Hawaiian, and guayabera shirts are all square cut - which should be an example of how it's done that crosses a lot of diverse ethnic groups. It's the Euro based style shirts which don't come off correctly, tailed shirts are meant for moderate to cold environments which often incorporate another layer over them. Hot weather tropical clime shirts are loose fitting, and also use a breathable weave.

In some areas of the country a modified rounded hem is acceptable as the shirt may be multiseasonal. Regardless, a tight fit is exactly what you don't want as access to the firearm in whatever location is hampered. Shoulder, IWB, appendix, deep carry - that shirt needs enough slack to lift up or out of the way, and it certainly doesn't need to be form fitting. That will only cause the shirt to print.

Go with the marketing on this one - if they aren't using heavier set chunky guys its not really meant for carry. The advert department doesn't have a clue and that is a big indicator of a lack of thruput at the cross departmental level. Besides - plenty of shirts are out there with a wide variety of choice in the under $10 prices, and plenty of places locally to shop. If someone is that far off the beaten track and no thrift shops are around, then it makes the situation even better. It's a low population density area and who's going to see?

As for someone who carries professionally, little tags and patches which ID the tactical make of the shirt should be anathema. It's like having a holster with the Punisher logo painted on it. Not discreet at all. Those guys are selling to Lookitme! customers who exude tactical carry social recognition.

Untucked shirts all the way! Only the button down Oxford shirts get tucked in and then I'm usually wearing a sports coat or light jacket over it.

I'm too hot natured to wear cover garments. Back problems are so bad that I either wear OWB or pocket carry. Minimal IWB holsters are comfortable for a while. I'm sixty-three, shoulder-length hair and a nicely trimmed beard (my step-daughters' friends think I'm a dead-ringer for Jerry Garcia), so tucked in shirts aren't gonna help much!

Well, I think the solution to concealed carry without looking slobby is to go with the tucked-in shirt and add a light sport coat. Concealment and extra pockets: win-win.

Too funny. I went to a meeting today. A dress shirt and slacks would have been fine but it was a little cool out, so I added a sport jacket. I guess some days a little dressier is nice.

As for the jacket as a concealment garment. Imagine the thug who picks us out because he thinks we’re an easier mark and have more cash. Can you say ... oppsie shouldn’t have tried to mug the guy carrying!

I was largely raised with the idea that untucked shirts = slob. So carrying concealed on some days was especially difficult.

If there was a style of untucked shirt that was not considered "slobby" then it would be much easier to slip a pistol under your belt and be able to draw it quickly.

What say you?

It depends on the cut and style of shirt.

Outdoor Life brand button front shirts, for example, are of a style and cut as to be worn untucked. Sears sells these, and I usually look through their selection whenever I stop by to pay on my Sears credit card. Every couple months I'll pick up a shirt or two, either by Outdoor Life or another of a similar style.

They always seem to have sales going on, too, so I never spend a ton of money on them.

Weekends, untucked shirts and a ball cap.

Weekdays, tucked in blue collar shirt or polo and no hat.

People don't notice that I carry, but they sure notice all the sweat coming through my shirts on a hot day.

One could more correctly say Jerry Garcia is a dead ringer for you......;)

Tweed with leather patches on the elbows?

Depending on your personal vibe and the clothing normal in your AO, Dickies work shirts conceal very nicely as they have some body to them.

A stoved up old cowboy in a vest is as common as dirt in Wyoming..

If you're going for the English country gentleman look, don't forget the pipe and the driver's cap!

Might also help to say things like: "See here now my good fellow are you accosting me?" before you draw your Webley service revolver.

I said that because he's a PhD......;)

And wellies......the wellies make the outfit.

Concur on guyabara shirts, just in general, and also handy for concealed carry.

However, please be advised that Goodwill is more thna a bit of a scam. Salvation Army is a much better place to shop--or a similar local charity.

Another vote for Guayaberas. As a South Fla guy, they are my preferred shirt style. There's a company, Cubavera, that has the same cut style, but without the pockets. Lots of color/pattern options. My wife knows what I prefer and they make their way into my closet.

And yeah, in South Fla, a jacket or any type will be good for one, maybe two, days a year.

Maybe I'm just a little OCD, but I hate the look of shirts with tails worn untucked. Sloppy. Same as guys who go out looking unshaven -- either shave daily or grow a real beard. And don't get me started on grown men who wear their ball caps backwards ....

Trying to remember the name of the shirts the men wore in the Philippines when I lived there ... same concept as the guayabera, more formal versions that looked pretty slick ... ah, that's it: the "Barong Tagolog."

I've got a number of the "camp shirts" with the squared off bottoms that look perfectly fine untucked and I wear 'em a lot during the summer. One can wear 'em looking dressed-up or dressed down.

Otherwise, I'm a vest guy (Carhartt, Cabela's, Columbia make my go-to vests, from fleece-lined, plain canvas to lightweight). I also like the unstructured (no shoulder padding) sports coats, which can look fine even with jeans.

Seems most here would rather carry a gun to match their preferred style of dress rather than dress around the gun. For those of us that prefer to carry full-size pistols, well, yeah, we have to keep more abreast of fashion and be more creative than those who'd rather carry a mousegun than change their personal style. I get that, nothing wrong with that. But again, nothing wrong with choosing to dress like a grown-up and go out in public occasionally wearing a sport jacket or nice vest ...

Untucked shirt = untucked shirt, making the shirt fit like a womans doesn't change that, still untucked.
I loathe tucking in my shirt and only do so at work, otherwise my shirt is untucked and most certainly not slim fit.
