What do you use your red dot optic for?

I am wondering what folks are using their red dot optics for.

Target shooting, compitetion shooting, hunting?

Also what kind of guns do you have them on?

Does any one use them on bolt guns?

Any hunters using them?

The reason I ask is I have an idea for an invention to use in conjunction with red dots but I think it would be more useful to target shooters and hunters than tactical type shooters although it could still be used in that aplication.

Here the use of them is largely restricted to the plinking and self-defense crowd, since the hunting market here for them is zero thanks to fogeys.

Any electronic sight here is verboten, no illuminated reticles, nothing with a battery at all. Because seeing what you're shooting at better is...bad.

I cannot use them well without having to learn to shoot lefty. Nah, give me a laser dot if it is working, if not? A big fat sight on the end of the barrel is good enough for HD.

I am part of the keep it as simple as possible. It's enough that I have a light and a laser to deal with. On the hand gun, it's just a three dot sight.

At the short ranges I expect to use them at, the red dots and electronic sights only add to process of engagement, more switches to flip, more boresighting to do and prone to error or damage etc etc etc...

Now, with that said, I like some of the items used by the Military and what they have done with them but not enough to cough up 1200 dollars for whatever they are worth in addition to the weapons. Sometimes, enough has to be enough.

And finally, tons of you tube videos indicate the person has to lean into a eyeball the scope, sight or whatever and get smashed in the face upon firing. Dont need that. You rifle folks, please dont take offense, those are big good scopes for that work. Much better than what HD is about.

Bullseye pistol competition. Almost nobody uses iron sights for NRA Conventional Pistol anymore.

I've got an extra one that I sometimes mount on my AR15 carbine.

I use Truglo, Millett and Jpoint (not shown), as well as other dots on handguns for hunting, paper and plinking. My eyes are getting too old for irons.

Lots of hunters around here use them for turkey hunting.

I use a BSA Tactical for HD and target shooting (out to about 100yds./center mass excercises). It's very fun and shoots well even at distance.

Many of my HD rifles have them mounted; they're so easy to acquire and are dead on accurate. I really like them but wouldn't feel undersighted if they failed somehow.

The only hunters I know using them are shooting pistols, mine are on a GSG-5, HK USC and AR types, strictly for plinking.

The only one I have is on my AK, so it's pretty much for plinking.

I'm planning on putting one on my M1 Carbine. That will be also be a plinker, but will serve as my go to varmint gun around the farm.

Used for rapid target acquisition in close quarters. Co-witnessed BUIS for if the optic fails.

I have an EO Tech on the AR for social work out to 100yds.
If you are developing a magnified red dot that might be a good thing. Pretty much now the options beyond 1x is a trijicon 3x-6x, or use the expensive magnifier for the eo tech. None are cost effective.
A big part of the draw though is quick target acquisition which you aren't going to get on anything with a lot of magnification.

I have one on my Hi Point 4095 carbine. Works great in that system. I also have one on my 10/22. I just have the cheapo Tasco and BSA's. Work great for me.

i have one on my ar, and i am looking to put one on my ak soon and an ultimak rail. i use eotech. i use them for training, they give you an advantage in a fight therefore i have one on my work gun and my personal ar as well.
