Actually Vernon (my father)'s kit was much simpler. When we lived in Peru in the early '50s, my mother wanted pierced ears. My dad kept telling her he could do it -- he'd pierced hundreds of ears. And Dad had lived all over the world and done many strage things.Vernon's Homemade Ear Piercing Kit:

They had some friends over for drinks, and Mom mentioned getting her ears pierced, and Dad said he'd do it right then and there. Mom had apparently had one too many and said, "Well, hell, Woody (which what she called him) go ahead."
This was just after Thanksgiving, and Dad had cooked the turkey. He had a huge needle that he had used to sew the turkey up. He took the cork from the whiskey bottle, held it behind her ear, and ran that needle through the lobe.
She screamed like she'd been killed, and the next day went to a doctor to get the other ear pierced.
Guess which ear got infected?
