As the title states, what does this mean and how will it affect the performance of my rifle? Specifically 5.56 through an AR. I am in the process of building my first AR and was looking over ammo. I see many places are out of stock, with the exception of boxer primed ammo, which makes me wonder if there is a negative side to it.

Also, just with putting my first lower together I can understand why people get black gun disease. I really like building these.

Thanks

Boxer is what you want...the regular kind we all reload. Berdan is the wierd commie stuff and inexpensive steel cased ammo. It is not easily reloadable.

Berdan was an American design. While Boxer was British. It's funny how we chose an British design, while the British chose the American.

Boxer = one flash hole = good for reloading
Berdan = two flash holes = not so good for reloading. Possible, just not that efficient.

only negative side to boxer primed ammo is, in general, it's more expensive. if you're not reloading, then it shouldn't matter.

Buy boxer, save the brass, and resell it. And keep it sorted by manufacturer. Make sure to post it as--- I bought this new and fired it myself--- it'll go quick

There's a difference that will benefit your wallet!

It sure is nice that people simply named Boxer, Berdan, Browning, Mauser, etc contributed greatly to the firearm industry in years past. Can you imagine talking about Szczepanski and Mxyzptlk primers?
