>>I dont travel anywhere without my gun.<<

He said as the door of his jail cell closed..............
???

Didnt break any laws

Well I did check the state I was visitings gun laws to make sure I could carry there of course

David E:...When would that be?

The only time I can think of would be if I had a match in another state and I send my own gun for me to pick up in that state upon my arrival.
I would bet the intent of this law is to prevent private sales of firearms between residents of different states.

Some of you may find this letter useful. Basically, you are not legally required to notify the private carrier (UPS, FedEx, etc.) what you are shipping...just as you are not required to ship overnight. Both policies are just that - internal policies.

I understand the rules to fly with a gun, I was only trying to think of a possible reason I'd be sending a gun to anyone not licensed to receive it.

If it were a 3-gun match several states away, I think I'd trust Fedex with my guns over any airline. (insured, of course!)

I stopped by the local Box Shop shipping service yesterday. Was told shipping a handgun would require overnight by FedEx and would cost me $71 to from Wyoming to the east coast.

Handgun shipping/transfer

I just purchased a pistol in AZ and I live in WA. My FFL said by law the individual seller must go through his FFL to ship to me (my ffl). I'm hearing other things from other people. If he is allowed to send directly to my ffl then ups or fedex is the only option? It sounds like it's $60 + to go that route.

I can't believe how expensive the shipping/transfer part of this is. Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Your Washington FFL is wrong. There is no Federal law that requires an FFL to ship a firearm. See the below FAQ's from the ATF website. It may however, be his PERSONAL policy to not receive firearms from a nonlicensee.

Federal law allows the seller to:
1. Ship it himself to your FFL, using a common carrier (UPS or FedEx). Both companies policies require overnight service which is expensive.
2. Pay an FFL in AZ to mail it through the USPS. USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate Box will run about $15 postage, not including insurance. The seller will have to pay a transfer fee to his FFL, If the FFL charges $25 for a transfer then you are still cheaper than shipping UPS/FedEx.

Q: May a nonlicensee ship a firearm through the U.S. Postal Service?
A nonlicensee may not transfer a firearm to a non-licensed resident of another State. A nonlicensee may mail a shotgun or rifle to a resident of his or her own State or to a licensee in any State. The Postal Service recommends that long guns be sent by registered mail and that no marking of any kind which would indicate the nature of the contents be placed on the outside of any parcel containing firearms. Handguns are not mailable. A common or contract carrier must be used to ship a handgun.

Q: May a nonlicensee ship a firearm by common or contract carrier?
A nonlicensee may ship a firearm by a common or contract carrier to a resident of his or her own State or to a licensee in any State. A common or contract carrier must be used to ship a handgun. In addition, Federal law requires that the carrier be notified that the shipment contains a firearm and prohibits common or contract carriers from requiring or causing any label to be placed on any package indicating that it contains a firearm.
