In the cases that have a very thick side to the neck, that continues through the shoulder and body (hard to measure), I have found the internal volume to be different (weight is not necessarily a good indication of volume). If I find a case with an abnormally thick side to the neck, I will usually send it to the cull pile for plinking loads. There might be other factors at work as well but this technique works for me.
