I was wondering if anyone knows what Jonny Rowland is doing these days??
For those of you wondering who? Here is some backround; Once upon a time there was a fellow who loved gold prospecting so much he started a club with a magazine and promoted the hobby as much as he could. This was back in the day when we had REAL satellite dishes (big ugly things not digital toys) and he began a TV network to promote his hobby and outdoor recreation in general. He needed stuff to fill his air time and along came Johnny Rowland who began producing The Shooting Show which became one of the network's anchor shows. With simple home video equipment from his farm in Dubberly, Louisania. Johnny did great shows about all aspects of shooting, reloading, self defence, virtually introduced cowboy action and IDPA to a large part of the shooting community. The TV network became known as The Outdoor Channel and grew being added to many cable systems as it was free. Unfortunately the old prospector died and his childern sold it to ViaCom, a big company who said "we have a problem with this Johnny character". "He shoots those AR15s, Mini-14s and other military rifles. He even refers to our benolevant benifactors as the EVIL UN and is against ANY guncontrol measures - this will not do"!!!!!!! So they went to him and said "Turn politically correct and get with the program no evil black rifles, anti gun control or UN statement or you cant be on out network". to which Johnny politely replied "#$%&*$#@#$% you and the horse you rode in on"!! Not to be discouraged he began purchasing satellite time and continued to broadcast his show for several years financing it out of his own pocket until he ran out of money and the big ugly dishes became abondoned. He tried to attract major advertisers but to no avail and even tried various projects to finance the show including inventing and marketing the .460 Rowland cartridge a more powerful round for the 1911 pistols along with the conversions for such plus AR15 uppers in that chambering. Nothing could save the show after which he did a radio show on the American Freedom Network in Colorado and on satellite radio for about 3 years. There is a website called theshootingshow.com which talks about the show and says he has returned to TV on a show called guns and gears but I can't find it and the website appears to be abandonded. I think Johnny is a truly Great American and if he caved in to ViaCom he would have made a lot of money and had fame like that enjoyed by the likes of Tom Gresham and Masad Ayoob. Things are different today and I'd love to see Johnny offer a DVD set of his shows for a reasonable price and use the internet to bring the show back. He loves shooting and freedom - we need as many like him as we can muster!!!

The show is internet based, at this time. I'm sure the reasons are obvious. The costs of distributing material is MUCH cheaper on the Internet than traditional broadcasts.

Happy shooting, enjoy the show.
