What folding knife would you rely on in a pinch for defense?

im in CA, so the largest folding knive i can get is 3.5" unfortunately.

i checked out the benchmade mini-rukus which seems like a great knife, except its almost 6oz. too heavy for everyday carry for me.

right now im looking at the SOG Flash II or the Benchmade Pardue, any comments, thoughts or suggestions? i do like assisted opening and am a big fan of kershaws (i have 3), so im interested to see how SOG's compares...

EDIT: so i think im gonna buy both, and return the one i dont like  stay tuned for updates!

so the SOG Flash II is just too bulky. the assisted opening action is ok, but definitely not as good as kershaws ken onion line. the benchmade mel pardue was on backorder, so instead i got it, a benchmade heckler & koch by snody, benchmade griptilian axis, a kershaw ken onion boa and a kershaw ken onion leek to test out from another site. :D ill be sending most back though. i contemplated the benchmade blackwood mini rukus but the middle/joint seemed too bulky.

after a LOT of research, supposedly the "best" tactical folding knife out there (and is thankfully even legal in CA) is the Emerson HD-7. the HD-7 is the updated version of the classic CQC7. they are in high demand and short supply right now, im trying to get one so fingers crossed

if this thing doesnt ship out in a few days, ill cancel it and will definitely call, thanks :D

Question......

What is the difference between a 90 dollar knife and a 250 dollar knife besides the price?

Good question. You might want to start a new thread to get the best answer.

@ carpettbaggerr

yeah i found that info as well. i guess it is true in California you can carry any sized folder. but with some local municipal San Francisco laws, other states etc, 3.5" is still the best bet for me i think. plus i want it fairly light for EDC

That one's been discussed repeatedly here, TFL and the various knife forums (Bladeforums, Knifeforums, Rec.knives, ...).

Sometime's it's the name of the designer or manufacturer. Sometimes it's the materials. Sometimes it's the attention to detail given in manufacturing or the precision of moving parts. Sometimes it's any or all of these things. Sometimes it's just the price. Depends upon what you want. I carry a small Sebenza most of the time, but also carry a Spyderco Delica from time to time.;)

self defense knive

 For all our wants and desires sometimes you just have to use what you have.

I love my CRKT M21-14SF folder. Comes with a built-in hilt and a double lock against closing. I can also reach into the bottom of a jar of peanut butter...

Best bang for the buck, no pun intended!

A Buck Teranni made licensed by Streider for Buck. Designed by my freind Steve Teranni. It opens fast and it is ATS34 and an awesome blade design, don't have a pic of my own but will try to find one online, got it for $120.00 at Sportsmens Wharehouse. But, I have so many, CQC7, a bunch of other Benchmades, and CRKTs, Love the M14, and as far as fixed blade, I also sometimes carry a Hissatsu, nice old world fighter and beautiful.

my Emerson HD-7 (black plain edge) came today and :what: the things a tank. not too heavy for its size, full sized handle, awesome blade, smooth action (you can flick it open with a quick wrist flip), the "wave" works awesome, nice feel and grip. great knife. only complaint - pocket clip is way too tight. im breaking it in a bit and slightly loosened one screw, so hopefully that should help. on, and the liner lock sticks a bit (hard to close) but again i think thats just because its brand new.

much thanks to JTW Jr. for the rec on where to buy! :D omar hooked it up, so many other places were out of stock.

i have ~ 4 more knives coming that im going to test out, then ill post up a big long review of them all, and my findings during my "tactical knife" research.

Glad Omar was able to hook you up. Omar is a good guy and a great person to deal with. :D

Handle enuff knives and you will know what is reliable and what more than likely won't be. Of course any tool can do if you can ;)

Benchmade Axis lock, what ever size your comfortable with and allowed to possess in your state.
Mine is a proto-type McHenry & Williams.
I like it better and can open it faster than my autos and close it with 1 hand.
