Doesn't look like the stock hammer. The cylinder rod thingy (I'm not up on my wheelgun terminology) doesn't look stock either. But I don't know Vaqueros very well....
I'll usually carry one of my Ruger SA's but usually it's a ss SBH shortened to 3 1/2" and round butted keeping close by in a Mitch Rosen "Sport" holster. Last time in the woods, i carried a HK P7M8 for the first time and found it very comfortable. Guess now it depends on where I'm going and what I'll be doing.
The Vaquero has a bisley hammer and Vaquero trigger from Power Custom and a Belt Mountain "sheriff" style base pin (That's the word you were looking for LiquidTension)
You're right about the grips mac, but silly as it might be, I kinda like the Ruger medallions, I'll have to see if I can get some nice grips made with them.
And the lack of a Ruger warning is just a trick of digital photo compression... it's still there unfortunately
I was just funnin' ya about 'em...my single-six them for a good long time before I found the right ones. Medallions do look good, too. I'm trying to figure out how to recess some mercury dimes into mine, as medallions.
Both of these are customs. The revolver is a Taurus Raging Bull in .44 Magnum with the barrel shortened to 3-3/4" which I nicknamed the Minotaur. The knife is a Bob Dozier #6 with extended guards and a 5-1/2" blade that I named the Texas Six.
In more open country I sometimes I go with this pair instead...
The revolver is a Taurus Raging Bull in .44 Magnum with Burris 2x-7x Scope and the knife is a Camillus Southwest Bowie with an 11-1/4" blade.
Everywhere else I carry these...
The pistol is an H&K P7 M8 and the knife is a custom Günter Böhlke Ironfinger with a 3-1/4" blade.
The Texas Six is my conception of the perfect general-use outdoors knife...as implemented by someone who knows a whole lot more about it than me.
Günter Böhlke has a web site at http://www.boehlke-messer.de/. He's a great person to deal with and a brilliant knifemaker. He knows every aspect of the craft and he can make just about anything. If he lived on this side of the pond he would be a "big name".
You can find out more than you want to know about any of my knives (along with contact information for their makers) from my web site. The URL is also in my sig.
On a full scale ''wilderness'' jaunt then I'd choose one of these .... all of which will fit in my very large size holster across-shoulder deal. Carry piece of the day would also be on board of course!
Problem is which?? On balance now I think it'd be the SRH in .454 ...... adequate were it to arise I think, to deal with a bear!!
Thanks for sharing that info, Bob.
Bob Dozier makes great working knives, used to have one of his folders, but it was too pretty to use.
I'll be checking out that maker, thanks again.
This 5 1/2" Bisley .44 mag tucked into a nice cross draw belt holster would be my trail companion in the woods. Something that's lightweight and out of the way works for me.
