I've been looking at a .357 mag pistol by Taurus with a 4" barrel. It has barrel porting and is a seven shot revolver. Its a model 627.

Can someone tell me how this revolver compares to a S&W and what frame size it would be? It would help me to find a suitable holster as there are far more S&W holsters available than Taurus holsters.

TIA

I'm not 100% positive but given the model number I'm going to guess N-frame

The Smith "L" frames (slightly bigger than the model 10 "K" frames" and significantly smaller than the Model 29 "N" frames) come in 6,7, and 8 shot varieties. They also come in barrel lengths from 2-6 inches I believe. Many find them to be the best size for range, hunting, competition and self defense use but a bit big for carry.

The 7 shot S&Ws are L-frames and the 8 shot models are N-frames. A friend of mine has the same revolver the OP is looking at and I'd say it is most similar to an L-frame. It doesn't look quite as big as my 327NG, which is an N-frame, but I've never made a side by side comparison.

I used to own a Taurus tracker 627, and now I own a s&w 686. Both has a 4" barrel, and were basically the same size frame.
