I gave a friend a high point c-9. We ain't friends no more:evil:

Just kidding, we are still friends. The highpoint has been totally reliable. He didn't have the extra funds for a weapon and when we went shooting he loved the ugly little thing. So I told him that it was his, gave him the gun, 3 magazines and a holster for it. He still loves shooting it, lord knows why.

I want to know if you've ever gone and purchased a firearm from a dealer (I guess private party purchase would fit the purpose of this thread), SPECIFICALLY to give the firearm to someone.

And exactly why do you want to know this information officer..?? Hmmm? :scrutiny:

Let's see, I think only three.

1) A S&W 67 to my first wife as a range toy.
2) A Ruger 22/45 to a parent as a backyard plinker
3) A S&W 66-1 2.5" to my current partner so she could have my back in bear country, or put in her purse if she ever needed to carry.

Gave a Ruger MK I to a friend who helped.

Gave my brother an SKS.

Gave my dad a pristine 98% 1956 Colt 1911
Gave my brother a Ruger sp101 in .32 H&R Mag
when a drug dealer moved in across the street from my brother (2 weeks later) I gave him my new in the box SxS 12g.

Gave my father an M1 carbine for Christmas. He carried one as an AP in the Air Force and liked the carbine over any of the other firearms he was ever issued. After his death I got it back.

I gave a nephew a .22 for his birthday. It supposedly was stolen but suspect one of his parents pawned it. No matter, kid's a 3 time sex offender now.

gave my nephew a rra ar15..when he came home a spending a year in the sandbox with the national guard............don

serbu 50bfg, volquartsen 22lr, walther g22 and p22 with suppressor, huglu bobwhite 20ga, just off the top of my head

Giving a gun to a loved one who doesn't have one, but would appreciate one, is a great way to get more gun owners in the world.

For my dad's 50th birthday everyone in hunt camp pitched in to get him a Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter in .44 magnum. He was quite touched. As he was unwrapping the package he said something like 'well this isn't big enough to be a new varmint rifle' then opened the box... for once he was dumbstruck.

A really good friend of mine put off hunting because he didn't have a rifle and wanted to go black powder. Myself, a friend and my dad conspired to buy him a .54 Hawken carbine. He became an avid hunter went to africa a scant few years later on his first safari.

Gifted my brother the hunting rifle (Savage 110B in 30-06) I'd bought off of him when he joined the navy. Ten years later when he moved back to Colorado I put a bow on it and gave it back to him for his birthday, early enough so he could take it elk hunting. (I of course bought a new rifle.) Refinished the old Savage for him a couple years back. It's a great shooting rifle, killed a lot of game with it while I had it.

I've bought a few others as gifts over the years, but those were the ones that 'counted.'

I have donated many over the years to non profits/charitys. Donated a pair of new Rem 1187 20ga's to my area Royal Ambassador's boys youth group just 2 weeks ago.

gunnuttery, he would claim he needed soda more than protection. I quit after I bought him a cheap Tokarev copy, told him it wouldn't sell for enough for him to make any moeny, but would work to keep him and the family safe. It was sold quickly. Hell, a gun he borrowed while I was overseas in the service made it's way to a local dealer, but that's another story when I got my money back outa that deal!

I gave a S&W Model 29 to a friends daughter. She loves to deer hunt and wanted to try taking one with a hand gun when she turned 16. I loaned her mine every year until she turned 21. Gave it to her for a college graduation gift. I always have a venison roast in my freezer and I don't have to deer hunt.:D

If you buy a gun and give it to someone who's allowed to own guns it's perfectly legal, If you knowingly buy a gun for someone who is prohibited from possessing (felon, etc.) then you are a straw buyer and broke the law, with that said;

I gave my son a .45 for his graduation, two more are coming up and in a few years I've got one set aside for my first grandkid.

I gave my sons Ruger .22 semi auto pistols for Christmas a few years ago. They gave me a S&W .45 when I turned 50.

I've not given very many. Too bad. Just cannot justify the $$$ very often.

Gave my Nephew a Model 70 in 270 WSSM for his HS graduation.

Gave one of my Buddies a .54Cal BP rifle for helping me load boxes to move.

Gave my other buddy a Lorcin (well I sold it to him then the check went through the washer) and since it was a Lorcin I told him Merry Christmas.

Bought my Dad a Kel-Tec P3AT for his birthday.

Before my wife passed away I bought her several pistols. I've regretted for years not buying her a factory nickeled duramatic .22 she wanted because I would have had to deal with going to the Sheriffs office and getting the paperwork in MO at the time. She really liked shooting the Duramatics and 1911's.
