You don`t need a ....cannon to shot/kill snakes. Hogs maybe.
I live in the country and see plenty of snakes of all kinds but I don`t kill them. That being said, I`ve killed a few very large rattle snakes. They get close to the house and they`ve over crawed their bounderies. Those were dispatched with a 22 cal.
Ever since I had a Diamondback live after being shot 3 times with CCI 357mag snakeshot, I've gone back to the time tested shot behind the head.
This Mojave rattler was shot behind its head with a Browning Hi-Power, it was by the front door and was coiling for a strike.
I prefer to carry a M29 Mountain this time of year loaded with heavy WFNs because of its ability to stay on target if I need to shoot through heavy brush.
Biggest snake I ever killed was a 6' plus rattler. A shot behind the head with a shovel was all it took, firearms discharge being illegal in the town I lived at the time.
.357 no doubt, an SP-101 would be golden. If you don trust CCI snake shot, a light .38 would be fine for a headshot for snakes. Something much hotter in .357 would be good medicine on hog at close range.
