In a recent thread, I mentioned how carrying my Glock 19 makes me feel so well-armed, I feel like I'm walking down the street with an AK-47. Holding that much firepower in such a small package is a comforting thing.
So, I was wondering what handguns give others at THR that warm and fuzzy well-armed feeling? What concealed carry handgun makes you feel like you've got an AK in your holster? Pics are welcome.
Looking forward to your replies,

David

I certainly don't feel that way about my Bersa .380, but I plan to have an XD 45 by the time my permit gets here and I suspect that will do the trick.

XD45 seems like a good choice for that ;)

Good thread -- I've had the same question in mind for a little while.

I don't carry (yet) -- long story! -- but when I do, my XD-45 seems to fit in the category of "as comfortably overarmed as one can reasonably be with one sorta-concealable handgun that takes readily available ammunition."

If not for that last bit (and Yes, I know one *can* find the ammo, but certainly not at every sporting goods store and at least some good chunk of Wal-Marts -- and it's expensive anyhow!), an FN Five-Seven might be the right answer ;)

And though I had some problems with my XD45 (related in an earlier thread) when firing in weather quite a bit below freezing, it is by all accounts an extremely reliable weapon, which also helps make it fit your AK-47 category ;)

I dig what your saying.
My Glock23 gives me that false sense of confidence. Like nothing can stop me. But I don't let it go to far or I'd end up on cops.

I'm not too worried about the capacity... I'm mostly concerned about the efficacy of each shot.

The new 4" redhawk has me absolutely drooling. Love my 5.5 inch redhawk, and I could feasibly see concealing a 4" .44magnum. BOOM! That's firepower. And I still got 5 more friends, as well as a speedloader or two if needed.

If I carry anywhere right now, its with a 1911. .45acp ain't no slouch, and I'm not worried about the "minimal" 8+1 capacity of it. Honestly, if you don't feel well guarded by a 1911 at your command, you really need to re-evaluate the decisions that put you where you are.

I have a wundernine XD9 that shoots great and has never once jammed, and it takes 16 round magazines, but I feel better protected by bigger irons.

This one can be quite comforting:

Probably a little too big and heavy for concealed carry though.

Your point is well taken. You definitely don't need to take it too far and end up in a mug shot. I know this might seem like a real mall-ninja kind of thread to some readers. That's Ok. I get it. But I don't think there is anything wrong with that well-armed security blanket kind of feeling when you know that you are responsibly well armed.
What led me to originally make the AK comment was a thread I started about walking guns. I had surgery last month to repair an injury I had in January. Basically I went from being a big guy who lifts weights everyday and stays in shape, to being an injured weakling who can only take short walks for exercise. Because I'm too weak to defend myself without a weapon (preferably a firearm), I've been packing every time I take one of those night time walks.
I've carried a few different handguns, and always felt protected. But the feeling I had carrying the Glock 19 was totally different than carrying the little .380 SIG or S&W j-frame. I just felt more secure.
The purpose of this thread, I guess, is to see what handguns give folks that sense of security. I'm not surprised to see 1911's, .44 mag revovlers, or G23's on the list. I'm very interested to see what else shows up.
Have a great weekend folks.

how bout an MP7A1:evil:

nah i wish;)

i would say my h&kusp45tac which i cant carry around here cause it is considered an assault waepon like the ak47

Really? The first week I had my XD I went shooting almost everyday outside in 0-20 degree weather and had absolutely no problems. That is, besides my fingers getting so numb I could barely hold the pistol anymore.

Well, I have a CZ-75 with factory 25 round mags. That's a lot of capacity for a handgun.

Still, I never feel especially well armed with a handgun round. I prefer being near my home or vehicle where a rifle is handy.

Like I'm carrying a AK 47??? :scrutiny:
Probably my G19 - not the most beautiful gun in the safe but it goes bang when I want, puts rounds where I want & has a good case of ugly
