What happens when one gets bored with a long brown gun

"Truck guns" everywhere are organizing to distance themselves from this connection.

George, how can I say this delicately...? Okay, I can't. It's an abomination. You took nicely finished wood and painted it bright green??? Dude, um, I'm speechless.

Well, like I said, the finish was damaged and I had to refinish it. I had some bigtime scrapes that I had to sand out. I couldn't find anything to match the original finish. So I figured, what the heck... let's have a little fun.
Such a thing is not irreversable.
And like I said... it's not like I put a scope on it. I'm not that cruel.

I feel so... dirty..
I really liked the thing! :D

I think it would've looked better as en EBLA (Evil Black Lever Action) though, what made you go for the green?

And, what Marlin modell is that?
I've taken a real liking in lever-guns lately, and that one looks great

I like it. If my Winchester 94 Trapper didn't have such nice wood, I'd paint it the same way.

If I remember, I'll post a picture of my Metallic Cobalt Blue (modified factory stock) 10/22 with it's fluted stainless steel barrel. :D

I probably would have chosen a different shade of green, but I still think your project turned out nice.

Shouldn't have any trouble recognizing yours in a rack. I wouldn't worry about anyone stealing it either. Dark green I could live with, but then its your gun. Man, what would be said if I showed up at the deer camp with that.

I would prefer a stain that let more of the wood grain through. The picture makes it look like paint.

I've seen rifles stained a variety of colors but the grain always showed through.

Good work.

I think it looks great. Makes me wish I had a gun to do that kind of project with!

If the finish was trashed, more power to you.
I can understand matching your truck color, and taste aside, it looks like a beautiful finish!

Imagine that, the Mad Ogre with a green gun!

Gewehr,
Good, sweet Lord...
I think I need to go look at some p*rn, after that.

No violent objections to George's lever-action, though.
It's got this rock-solid, farming-tool aesthetic to it.
:D

How about this:

BTW, that's the original birch stock with barrel band. I opened the barrel channel, cut the end off, glass bedded the action with the new barrel, sanded it down, primed and painted it, then added the longer buttpad.

It'll shoot .5" off a rest at 50yds. Not bad for a $46 "reject" barrel from Green Mountain...

Horge, that's not my rainbow-colored M14/M1A.

Just to clear the air. Ask Amish_Bill about it, though. ;)

That metallic FrankenRuger 10/22 is actually pretty cool. I've seen several competition guns done like that, especially in the benchrest game. I'd wager our own Mr. Bogie (now a popular sight in this month's Precision Shooting magazine) has seen a lot with snazzy paint jobs on benchrest guns, if he doesn't own one outright.

My own heavy benchrest project gun will probably be a candy-apple red metallic. Although electric blue metallic looks nice against the stainless steel action, too. ;)

The Ogre combination battle club/boat oar/Bronco fashion accessory/rifle still makes me taste breakfast, and I've been trying to look at it for a while without blanching. Damned gag reflex and all...

Actually, it's a blued receiver. The flash washed out the color. Had the deal not been so sweet on the barrel, I would've gone with a blued barrel, but it's hard to pass up a $115 savings over something as simple as finish.

My bad.

Although electric blue metallic looks nice against the stainless steel action, too.

I meant the stainless steel Nesika Bay action of my benchrest gun.

Speaking of reject Green Mountain barrels, I returned a particularly bad example of one about three months ago for a full refund. I hope you didn't get the one I returned. :(

Oh. My bad.

No, what I got was a specimen from a run of undersized barrels. They're supposed to measure .920" OD. This run of 35 or so is .910", give or take a few thou'. Mine measures at around .912" or so and shoots beautifully.

I was going to get an unfluted blue barrel (for $80) before I happened across this sale on rimfirecentral. It took me about 1 second to make my decision and call. :D
