So, I have been thinking about SHTF, yet again, and the whole terrorism thing that we are going through currently.

And it has got me thinking about how our country would respond to an even larger attack than 9-11.

So here is the scenerio. Sometime this summer, coordinated attacks. Large coordinated attacks, either radiological, chemical or biological, in half a dozen or more cities. Initial estimates are 20,000 or more dead.

What happens? I mean, immediatly, short term, long term? How do we respond? Both within the nation and globally? What problems do we face immediatly afterwards (ie. food and water supplies, communicatins)? How long do the problems last?

What happens economically? What happens politically?

And how do you respond?

First problems will be hospitals and mortuaries becoming rapidly overloaded. Absent mechanical sabotage, the electricity and water systems will continue to work, although short-term problems could happen if key operating personnel are casualties.

Most likely there will be curfews and very nervous cops and NG guys. Expect various types of decontamination teams with total authority over everybody in the affected areas.

Odds are that phones, radios and TV will continue to work. Too much automatic stuff, requiring little human involvement for the basics.

In the unaffected areas? Expect efforts from all governmental entities to persuade folks to follow "business as usual" behavior.

Non-essential travel into the affected areas will be forbidden until the decon teams are done with their assessments.

No intent to be cynical, but economically it will mean fewer jobless and because of the way we measure GDP, it will increase. (Same as after a hurricane.)

Politically within the U.S.? I'd guess a whole bunch of new NeoCons. Globally? Some sort of takedown of any involved governments. Probably a hostile attitude about trade with anybody not actively helping to catch and punish the Bad Guys.

I wouldn't count on phones working reliably anywhere near the affected area for a few days, they'll be overwhelmed.

Amateur radio operators will provide the only reliable communications :)
