What would happen if a nuclear device was detonated in a major city?

a couple of demographic facts:

manhattan's population swells from 1.5 to almost 3 million every work day.

DC's population from 580,000 to over one million.

in 1945, somewhere in the neighborhood of 80,000 people died from the initial blast, in a city with a population of only 250,000 at the time. the point?....population density. that weapon was somehwhere in the neighbourhood of 15kt...very small by most standards.

makes you want to move west.

I had to dig it out. FWIW, I'd be more afraid of the Hegelian possibilities with the threat, than it actually happening.

I am afraid to ask, but what is the upside-down "V" on the forehead of your tin foil hat?!?!

Have I missed something? Should I put one on my Tin Foil Hat?!?!

Please respond, immediately!

knee jerk tinfoil hat posts in response to the consideration of....well....seemingly any potential disaster scenario are as tired as AK vs. AR threads, and as boring as the latest Tomkat gossip. thanks for your inspired contribution.

The retaliation would probably rise to irrational levels.

What level of retaliation would you guys consider "irrational"?

Right now even harsh words are considered over the top by most of Europe, the Middle East and our own news media. :scrutiny:

I'd like to remind everyone that this is the Strategies and Tactics Forum. Disussion of the actual physical effects of a nuclear detonation and how one could prepare to survive would be on topic. Discussion of what the nation's response would or should be, or how your neighbors would or should respond is not on topic and this one is closed.............
