I need some help here. I am going to buy an Pentax Gameseeker and mount it on a 10/22 Ruger rifle but I have a couple questions. I don't know much about this to be honest.

For a .22 LR caliber what power scope would you suggest? Mostly for target work and plinking, but might in the future go to a bit of hunting. Range use distances are probably 20 yards to 75 yards.

My choices for this scope are 3x9 and 1.5x6 power. What would you suggest?? Over time the scope may get moved to a .17 HMR that I am considering.

Also, what height rings should I buy? This is where I am really lost. There is all different heights, small, med, large . . on the midway web sight. I have the weaver base and the scope tube is 1 inch. I just don't know what height to buy.

Thanks.

I think the folks at Midway can help; they have gunsmiths on hand to answer questions like this.

They can probably tell you the minimum size you need to fit the scope to your rifle, but of course you might personally be more comfortable with a higher set. I've always solved these sorts of problems by starting with a set of medium rings, and then exchanging them for a different size if need be.

For a .22 a 3x9 scope seems to be total overkill. I think a good 4x is all the scope you'd ever want or need on a .22. Leupold makes the FX-1 4x28 that is going to be small and bright, and a lot more forgiving of eye placement than a cheapo 3x9 cranked up. It parralex adjusted fo 60 yards, so it's a .22 scope. I think you'll just enjoy shooting it more than the others.

I try to get the rings as low as possible. I find it make the rifle handier and I shoot better. I know other people always like "medium". It might depend on your face and shooting style. Still, I'd start with low.
