Ive been making hybrid IWB and all kydex OWB holsters for a while now. Ive been selling some in the for sale section. My question is what guns should I start making holsters for? Ive mostly been making holsters for glocks and 1911's and I will start making them for XD's and M&P's this month. (just ordered the blue guns) So whats next? FN? Sig? Revolvers? Please list make and model if you have a suggestion. Thanks.

Lol. Everyone uses blue guns to make holsters. I dont have thousands to spend on guns I dont want just to make and sell $40 holsters.

J Frame
LCP/LCR
Bodyguard

That would be some of the ones I would think there is a market for.

Consider offering to make custom holsters, and charging a little more, of course.

There are guns out there for which few makers offer in-stock holsters because the number of people who would buy them is too low to justify having the holsters in inventory. This is five times more true for LH versions for common guns, and 20 times more true for LH version of uncommon ones.

Those of us who are LH and own a less common carry gun are always "making do" with something close. There is a niche market here, especially for someone who can make a properly fitting kydex holster.

J frames for sure...

That's my next project after I build another SR holster or two.

Can you get a blue gun for those surplus handguns?

You'd be filling a niche, because very few holster makers bother. For those of us who might like to OC a conversation starter, your $40 holster would be one of very few options

TAK I think you are on the right path. Stick to those high volume guns, but may want to lean toward, the small CCW guns. Instill really enjoy mine. Hope you saw my review last week!

TAK, if TX ever goes open carry, ima need a holster for a 4" .357 (model tbd) with matching belt, speed loader pouch (2fer) and smartphone case... start thinking about phone cases, mkay?

M3mhog no i didnt where is it? And beatledog its funny you mentioned LH because one of the main reasons I started making holsters is because my brothers and I are all left handed. Its nearly impossible to find good LH holsters in a shop. You almost always have to order something online. Dave I found a blue gun tokarev so I will work on getting that. Main problem I have with stuff like that is the $60 blue gun to make a $40 holster. I'll pick one up in the next couple months.

Nobody is making holsters for subcompacts with a light installed. I just ordered a custom leather one from a local maker for a XD9 subcompact with a X2.

I'd probably take a couple holsters for an M&P Shield when I get one if you're offering them.

How about mag pouches? I'm in the market for a couple (for a couple different guns) and I'd rather my money went to another THR member than a big company.

I think if you go for the concealed carry market, you can't really go wrong...

The FN crowd is SCREAMING for holsters, they are always making due with ones made for other guns. Hint................LH FNX :)

Thanks bob. Ive had numerous requests for FN holsters, the problem is that there are no blue guns available for the models requested.

Having a good kydex option for 4" S&W K-frames would be nice. There's a TON of holsters out there for those guns but 99% of them are leather (because the revolver crowd is often more inclined that way :)). It does leave the field lacking though for those of us wanting a rigid holster. Aside from some very expensive options its basically down to Fobus (which I just can't stand).

Other than that, the Walther P-38/P-1 would be nice. No prominent kydex options there either.

That's the type of stuff I'd like to see. Just IMHO, the competition is stiff if you're making for things like Glock, M&P, etc. Have them available for sure, but there are a lot of people out there wanting niche holsters that will pay for them.

I suppose I'll have to put my money where my mouth is on that one
Put me down for one so long as it will work for a Yugo Tokarev, I can send pictures to confirm.

TAKtical, where do you live? If we're close enough maybe we can work out a "blue gun exchange".

I buy Blue Guns when possible unless I already own the pistol. I also try to buy the newest guns on the market so I can get to production right away making the hot models. It's expensive but if I time it right I can have the gun paid for in a few weeks. I'll be lisitng a line for the Springfield XD-s 3.3 45acp on Gunbroker this weekend.

Hey TAKtical, I too make holsters and other leather goods for firearm owners. I don't know where you buy your blue guns. I bought blue guns from Blackwater Tactical.us/ for $37.99 each. I bought two and shipping was $4.95 and no tax. I live in South Carolina and received them in about a week. I also left and right hand strong side and crossdraw holsters mainly for revolvers. Hope this helps.

I had a heck of a time finding one for a third generation S&W. Had to have one custom made and I'm still waiting for the brown truck to show up.
I'd like to have one made for my GP 100

I have thought about it a lot, done some research, and ordered these blue guns this week.
1.) M&P
2.) XD
3.) M&P shield
4.) LCP
5.) Sig P226
Looking for a j frame, an FN and a CZ but no luck yet.
