What if you run into this cop...

You want polite, professional police? Three easy steps:

1. Privatize the police.

2. When a policeman (whose job it is to protect the rights of men, not the rights of God or the interests of the State) ceases to protect the rights of individuals (life, liberty and property) and begins, rather, to violate them, he should be viewed and treated as what he is: a criminal thug who happens to have a shiny pin on his shirt.

3. Throw such entities in prison.

I'll concede that the cop went too far, but who here really feels any sorrow for these juvenile delinquents?

They know they're not supposed to skate there, they do it anyway. They've had run-ins with the cops over said skateboarding yet they're still going there.

BTW - Last time I checked, juveniles pretty much have ZERO civil rights.

:scrutiny:

Uh, no, doesn't work that way. In fact often times they have considerable protections beyond that which an adult would have. For instance, a child can't give the police consent to search a home, nor can the police interview a child without their parents present. Basically, when it comes to children, cops can't do anything to a child they couldn't do with an adult, and they can't do somethings they could normally do with an adult, either.

I feel sorrow for those kids. It was a huge space, and did not look very congested with foot traffic in that area, so they were likely posing no risk to anyone. Yet that attitude-laden fiend manhandled them because he was so full of himself that he couldn't swallow his pride. Aye. I feel sorrow. Those kids got a real good taste of what it means to have a "modern day" respect for authority. Fear.

When a piece of metal on your chest, and a gun on your side means more than principles, civility, and humility, you should know it is time to find a more suitable line of work. And the rest of us should know not to cut any slack to such a thug. No matter how tough his job may be, it doesn't matter: he has no right to treat any other human being in such a manner, especially for such trifling issues. If you defend such behavior, or anything similar from other police, you deserve as much respect as Mr. Rivieri deserves. Zero.

Wow you sure must be perfect, I would like to meet a saint like you someday.

For Pete's sake, they can't stay in all day playing Xbox, they can't spend all day on the internet, they can't hang out at 711, they can't skate... you know what that leaves for them to do?

Drugs.
My apologies, I forgot about the rampant drug problem among our youth during the 50's 40's and 30's before that advent of the Skateboard.

Yep, I remember back in the day when we would be flingin rocks, or eggin houses, or poppin mail boxes just cause old man Higgins wouldn't let us play baseball on his lot......Wrong behaviour is inexcusable. The kid probably had school work to do or he should have been helping his parents around the house or working a part time job. You know something constructive.

Would have been nice if the cop had called his parents to come get him and when they refused or ignored the call. He had the little miscreant sent off to child services.

He said that before he could run away, the officer kicked him in the leg, and his leg crunched against his bike rim, breaking a portion of the wheel.

ya think? kicked and broke a bike wheel? bs

san authoritas you come on down to the inner harbor sometimes the skate punks are a pain in the ass.
nothin a shot in the teeth wouldn't have ended a few years back

Glenn, I'm no saint. But I'm also not a cop.

Rather than further sarcastic, ad-hominem attacks on your part, I cordially invite you to address the points. Do you disagree with any of the points I made?

Cassandra, if you think bellowing, arrogance and putting a 14-year old in a chokehold is anything close to an appropriate response to being called "Dude..."
