I am getting an XD-9 soon and I am thinking about getting a flashlight to mount under it for use in home defense. I don't want to spend a lot of money because I don't know if I will like since I have never had anything mounted on one of these rails.

I am thinking $50-100 tops. Just looking for a decent light and mount that will go on and off fast and be somewhat rugged. Having batteries that are not too expenisve is a plus if they last a long time. I don't want to spend $20 on batteries for every hour of use or something.

Also, what other things ae worth mounting on these rails? Laser?

You could mount any ring-mounted flashlight. Like, for instance, the swatforce light listed on that page. It looks really silly, you couldn't ever holster it, but it is $40, uses standard 123 lithium batteries, and works.

I think the conventional wisdom is against visible light lasers.

Look on the forums to buy yourself a lightly used M3.

I've seem them go for under $100 for NIB/LNIB. Try Glocktalk, that place seems to have the most traffic on the for sale boards. I see M3's there on a regular basis.

Is it a sub-compact? If so the XML light is made for the compact model, (XML = Xtreme Mini Light) ABout 100$
