2A was "political" when it was first adopted.
I'd love a Garand, shot an NM one in competition years ago. But that darned en bloc loading system always put me off.
Run out of clips, you've run out of gun, and sooner or later, the clip supply will run out.
One of the things the Japanese did when they copied it was put a detachable box magazine on it, and I guess the M-14 is essentially the same gun but with... you guessed it... a box magazine.
