What is dangerous range of a 22LR?

We had a young lady killed with a .22 at several hundred yards a couple of decades ago. A hunter shot at a rabbit running over a dirt birm and missed. The bullet traveled across Interstate 70 and struck her at the base of her skull. She was hanging plants at a nursery and simply fell to the ground dead. Her co-workers did not hear the shot and the cause of her injury was not immediately apparent (wound covered by her hair). She was the daughter of one of our secretaries. Be careful out there!!!

You can kill someone throwing a rock at them. I used to shoot old plastic motor oil bottles at 100 yards with cheap bulk 22LR's out of a nylon 77, and they would only dent the plastic a little. I still wouldn't want to get hit with one though.

I don't know max range. I saw a little girl shot with one at 5 yds in the neck sustain major injury from fragmentation. BTW watch your sons closely with semi auto 22's, especially if they are around 14 years old and with their friends. IQ goes down when teens are together. One teenage boy = one brain. 2 teenage boys = 1/2 a brain.

"One teenage boy = one brain. 2 teenage boys = 1/2 a brain. "

Giving my experiences as a young buck, this math is spot on!

When I was a kid my Dad was up on the roof of our house working on the gutters and he heard light thud like a rock hitting the roof. A few mins. later he heard another one and went over there an expended .22 round. He could hear someone shooting in the distance. This was a semi-rural area, near mountains but neighbors houses visible.

He came down off the roof and yelled for us to get out of the yard, we were playing baseball and to get in the house NOW! He went in the house and got his .357 and as he headed toward his truck another neighbor pulled up asking if he was hearing gun fire and rounds landing near his house. Yes, and he jumped in the neighbors truck and they went off to find some yahoo about at least a mile, mile and a half away from the house out banging away in various directions with a .22 rifle, no concern about a backstop, mostly firing in the air.

Both of them lite into him verbally asking him if he was crazy and told him your rounds are hitting our houses and we have kids out playing. You have stop now or we call the sheriff or your other alternative is rounds coming back at you. He stopped.
