What is going on with the Ruger Blackhawk price?

Even before the price hikes, I had been having serious concerns with Ruger SP101 and GP100 and their quality. My Sp101 had spots that weren't fully polished and sharp corners inside the frame..
Same here with my 2" Sp101. Tooling marks and the action was sticky. That was an easy fix to slick up. $550 otd. Now I'm seeing that same gun for high $600. That's still fair maybe.
As a building contractor (retired) I find this pretty funny. Anyone priced lumber or sheet goods in the last couple years? Insulation or concrete? Guns are still so cheap as to be hardly worthy of comment.
Funny? Laugh away. Prices have hiked on all firearms. But I'm specifically talking about the Ruger Blackhawk here. You don't typically see a price double on such a standard, utilitarian six shot single action revolver this quickly, especially while currently in production. Rugers lure in the first place was an affordable six gun. Now the Blackhawk is pushing S&W Double Actions in my area? Please.

Edit: same words, rearranged.

But you will never wear it out.
I get so tired of this line. Most shooters will never "wear out" thier handgun.

The Blackhawk had an appeal. Tank like, affordable. Now it's double in price. Ruger used to provide a noticeable gap between S&W. Now that gap is closing significantly.

For 550... with today's inflation and shortage induced prices I could say okay, but years ago and with Ruger's name on it? No. I still think the SP101 is Ruger's worst double action revolver and one of the worst in current production that goes for over $500.

Well Gee, so sorry I offended you. It was a tongue in cheek joke. You said you paid $475 "not too many years ago" using an inflation calculator if that was in 2002 then the price today would be $759.11. And thats probably right in line with what the street price for a 357 BH is today.

But don't worry. I will not respond to any more of your post.

Not so long ago a Rossi .357 carbine was less than $500 MSRP. Now they’re nearly $900. And good luck finding one. Seems like anything that isn’t an AR or plastic is now regarded as a “premium” “hand crafted” “artisanal” product and priced as such. Pretty soon I’ll bet they’ll be advertised as “limited release” just like a craft beer. I’d love to be able to find and buy my choice of calibers and barrel lengths in Blackhawks even for $600+. But it’s hard not to feel almost insulted when they’re priced astronomically, and not available even so. (And yes, I understand supply and demand perfectly well. But a mass production factory is supposed to be able to make a product more affordable through economies of scale. In this case it seems like the factory simply can’t or won’t actually produce the products it’s known for.)

Guy, that's 20 years ago. I'm saying 5-7.

Anyway, I'll be going the "used" route for a BH.

Ok.

Please?? The cost of building a new home has nearly doubled in the last couple of years. "Please" yourself!

I regret not buying one when they were in the 400's.

If it makes you feel any better (and it won't), I'm sitting on 2 NIB and one used Marlin JMs in .357 in my safe that were purchased in the $400 range, As a comparison. I purchased a Marlin in .357 (stainless/laminated stock) for close to $900 a few years ago. Everything goes up in price, it's just a fact of life.

Get ready for your second dose of sticker shock. I was looking for a BH 357/9mm myself just a couple of months ago on GB and the prices were so high I just couldn't justify the cost of one. Not new or used. More than just inflation but the demand for guns right now. Its slacked off a little from a couple of years ago but I don't know if prices will ever get to what might be called "reasonable" ever again. And thats why I made the "at least you will never wear one out" joke. They may be painful to buy but they will at least last a lifetime. And the long life of guns is also now helped by the lack of ammo and the crazy prices being asked for it when you do find it. And that goes for reloading components too.

I bought this SP-101 last October new and the cost was $625. I have no idea what it would cost now but I bet I wouldn't spend the money on one now.

I know these are tough times for us shooters, but I never thought I would see the day where a Ruger Blackhawk 357 neared the price of a S&W 686.

$829 MSRP for a 6.5" blued Blackhawk 357.

$893 MSRP for a SS S&W 686 357.

What gives? I paid $475+tax for a NIB Blackhawk, from high dollar Cabelas not too many years ago.

Is this only in my location? Or what are you folks seeing these sell for NIB in your part of the country.
It just your location or caliber. Just a very liberal dose of greed on mfgrs., and disrtibutors. They wanna get rich at our expense. Slowly gleaning myself of those makes of weapons. And wishing I could find an honest retailer.

I can't think of another single action like the Blackhawk .357/9mm convertible, or just the BH in general as few make single actions with adjustable sights. Heritage is no longer in the market for centerfires, so they're gone, which leaves the Italian companies and Colt as the competition. At $600 for a Uberti Cattleman, $500 for a Pietta, a Blackhawk is still a better gun for the money.

Best advice I can give is wait another 3 years, either inflation will have gone up so much nobody will have money to buy things except food or things will settle down and shortages and panic buying will be over.

Its Crazy! I bought a Blackhawk 45ACP/ 45 Colt Combo from my LGS just a few years ago for $500 even. It was a good buy then and has had a lot of use since then. It gets around 100 rds of each caliber at each range session, Love it!

Yeah, LOVE IT. That's why I can't find one for sale. I have the Vaquero, my only Vaquero. It will be gone when I get a Blackhawk.
Shooting .45 ACP is a pure joy.

I've been watching the auction sites and other listing sites for about 3 months now looking for 44 spl. revolver. I'm not real picky about who made it, I have Rugers, Smiths and Colts so I know what I'm getting into with any of them. I would buy a new one but there just aren't any out there, especially 44 spl. Seems like everything used has increased in price by at least 10% in the last few years. I'm to the point of selling the new brass and dies I just bought and forgetting the entire purchase. I don't think I've ever seen a situation like that and I've been buying guns for a long time.

The same thing has happened to some vehicles. I recently got an offer to buy my Toyota 4R that was 10% more than I paid for it new in 2019. The reason is supply and inflated prices on new vehicles. Dealers are getting 10% over MSRP so why shouldn't used vehicles increase in value.

I can also say the real estate market is in the same situation. There's a severe housing shortage where I live and prices have been going up 20% a year. That may start to slow down soon but it won't reverse itself substantially because the shortage and cost to build more houses/apts will be there for a long time.

All this leads me to believe that the cost of living (food, housing, clothes, transportation and durable goods like firearms) will soon shock all of us, even more than we can predict or imagine.
