What is "standard action" in regards to Charter Arms?

I've been flipping through the latest centerfire catalog, and came across a brand I've never heard of "Charter Arms".

I'm specifically looking at the .38 sp Panther. Looks like a cool j frame type 38.

But.. what is "standard action"... it that the kind that has to be manually cocked before it will fire.. or can one just keep pulling the trigger and fire each time?

Also.. are they a decent brand?

It is a (standard ) DA/SA trigger action. I own a CA ultra lite 38sp. kick'n light a** pistols but work well. Fit good in a pocket holster too. CA does have a smaller 2 finger grip but you won't like that pistol any more with it. You may want to change the hammer spring to a lighter wolf spring to make for a better trigger pull . Buy some snap caps to and just setting around shot the revolver with the snap caps in it after 3 or 400 hundred ties it light'ns up more. I have one for when something lighter is needed. 2 finger grip and 125gr +p's loads will make you want to throw it at the BG. hehehe

Like hardluk said, Charter Arms revolvers are regular double action wheelguns, they operate the same as a S&W J fame.

Charter Arms has been around in different incarnations since the 60's. They had some quality issues back when they were called Charco in the 90's but their early guns were good quality and the newer offerings seem to be pretty decent. Their main claim to fame is the Bulldog .44spl.

I'd buy a Charter Arms before a Taurus or Rossi.

I really like the little Bulldog Pug I just got. Not as refined as a S&W, but for $350, I didn't expect it to be. Fit and finish is comparable to a Ruger, though not as heavily constructed; The Pug weighs only 21 ounces. It does bark and snap pretty good with more potent loads, but carries easy. Has a pretty darn decent trigger, too.

Yes, AFAIK, the panther finish is only on the standard model. Nice looking gun, just handled one yesterday while I was buying powder and bullets. If I were in the market for a small .38, I'd probably go with it.
