Shows like "Miami Vice" and movies like "Boyz In The Hood" can't have permeated the culture so that almost 20 years later there's still a perception that most criminals have Uzis and AK 47s, can they?
Tried carrying a switchblade lately? I can't in my state and I'm pretty sure it all comes from the 50's.
Most people dont' get freaked out by six-shooters and lever action rifles. Those were the tools of John Wayne characters and such. Shotguns, so long as they have wood furniture, are hunkey dorey. Make it black and put a pistol grip on it though and they start thinking about the bad guy from the last action movie they saw. Well, that is amonst the fence sitters.
The anti's are up in arms if you've got a black BB gun. Actually they not "up in arms" -- they're just yelling really loud.
