Smith model 19:

Though I like it better in a 4" barrel:

The best looking is still the Python, hands down. Very likely the most accurate, too. The FA model 97 likely matches it.

The nicest handling is the Model 19/66.

Most efficient a PC 627

Best all around a M686.

For casual knocking around in the woods, a Ruger Old Model Blackhawk, or a Dan Wesson

Most collectable a mint late 50's Python, or a Registered S&W.

Sleeper collectables Colt Trooper, New Service, or ".357" models

The best for Elmer Keith Commemorative (i.e. original power) handloads, a M27.:D

Another vote for the old S&W Model 27 or 28 (if you're not looking for looks). They shoot great right out of the box, and can be tuned to unbelievable accuracy.

IMO, the best overall would be the 19/66.
I love the 586/686 but prefer the handling characteristics of the K-frame a little better.
I've owned two 28's in 4" & 6", and found them wonderful to shoot, but a little heavy for extended carry.

I was going to say the best .357 is the one in my hands before I need it :neener:

But I'd alsolike a 6" Coonan :banghead:

Otherwise, the best 6" for me would be 686. I could swap to a 4" barrel and not feel guilty about it ;)..

Taurus 66

I've had one 17 years and fired 7k even mix .38 and .357]

The finish is still near perfect, accuracy is superb and lockup is tight.

I know taurus isn't the most popular but it's been good to me.

I've seen them used for $189.00

My favorite is the stainless Ruger GP100 with the half-lug barrel. Close to being my favorite handgun.

My favorite? Mod 27 of course. Especially this one 'cause it's MINE!

Thanks Tamara for infecting me with this DISEASE!

I love my custom-686

I really love this one.
Have one more 686 without any customizing, but this is my "beautie"

its something with chrome-nitrate
my gunsmith mentioned, that this would be a good option. and looks great

@ valnar:
I don´t know anything about it - my gunsmith offered me the complete bundle, what means:
- new gun out of the box (686)
- bull-barrel
- grip
- customizing
- full chrome-nitrite-coating (not chrome-nitrate)

sorry for the mistake ...

my vote goes for the gp-100. mine shoots 5 shots just over 1.50" at 25 yards with the factory sites and 158 cast handloades. bought the gun recently and have not had time to shoot at longer ranges with various loads.

Hey Oneshot, nice .357 there. I thought of the M27 at first, but really prefer a 4" barrel, or the 3 1/2"er M27, and didn't want to even think about changing such a fentastic revolver.

And yup, Tamara has posted some great pics :):):):).

No doubt about it. A nickle plated Colt Python .357Mag with a six inch barrel. Best gun I ever or probably ever will have owned. I kick myself in the buttinski everytime I think about it. BUT when your an E-6 with five head of younguns back in the 1960's military and someone offers you $1000.00 for your prize gun your pappy gave to you, it doesn't take long to make up your mind to sell.
My Dad was a LEO generations ago and he left me some fine old guns, a .38Spl Police Positive which my sisters husband and her kids ruined and a Colt .38Spl Nickle plated Dick Special which looks brand new and I will never part with it. But I sure do miss that Python, dam------------------- John
