What is the first gun you have in mind when you hear 357 Mag or 44 Mag??

.357 = S&W .357 Magnum, aka Registered Magnum, later the 27.

.44 = Ruger Super Blackhawk or Smith 29. SBH, because that's what I have and shoot in .44, 29, because, well, because.

Mention magnum revolvers and I picture N-frame Smith and Wessons.

The first, for the .357, is grampy's old M-28/Highway Patrolman with 4" tube. (Not sure if it's a pre-model # or not.) Learned to shoot DA revolvers with that gun and .38 Specials.

For the .44s, it is the M-29/629. I have a 6" 629 sitting with me right now, and will probably take it to the range later today. The first handgun I bought for myself, and I don't think I could ever part with it.

Now, in the .357 I'd say the M-19 runs a close second, and I have always wanted one, even though the 686 is stronger.

357=Cop 44 Mag=BAD ASS COP

For me it has nothing to do with a gun I own or have ever shot. It is an impression left with me as a kid in both cases. Even to this day when I hear or read .357 the first thing that comes to my mind is a cop. Not a detective but a patrolman: Blues, nightstick, handcuffs, bright shinny badge on his chest, radio, and of course a gleaming blue steel Smith & Wesson combat magnum in a duty holster on his hip. I can still see an officer with that shiny deep blue gun to this day. I still remember staring in awe at many officers with those shiny blue revolvers in their holsters growing up. Until they started carrying wondernines or plastic-fantastics that was all I ever saw. Sure who didn’t want a python, but they all carried , blue steel, Smith & Wesson combat magnums. As for the 44 Mag? “You’ve got to ask your self one question: Do I feel lucky? Well do ya punk?” I own versions of both now.

I grew up hearing nothing but Colt Python for the .357. The Smith 29 also pops to mind regarding the .44. I carry neither, but have a Smith 66 and a Smith 329PD, respectively.

.357 for me is the Highway Patrolman S&W with a 4 inch barrel. I think the model is the 28.

.44 is easily the 29 with the 6 inch barrel. I want one soooooo bad but would also love a 629.
