My great grandfather was World War One veteran who fought in the British Army for the entire war, Black and Tan Mercenary in the Irish Civil and then spent decades as a L.A. County Sheriffs deputy. Quite the badass. In any case it was the custom at the time in the LA County sheriffs dept. to confiscate and release and he had a very extensive gun and switchblade collection. When he died his cop buddies came and cleared his "collection" out before the family could. The weirdest thing he had that I remember firing in the hills around Los Angeles when I was about 12 years old was a Schnellfeuer Mauser. Yep. One of those little broomhandle machine pistols. He didnt have much ammo for it and I think I shot one mag full and couldnt hit anything . I had no idea at the time that no combination of laws would have made that thing legal. I like to think that some sheriff deputy's grandson has it stashed under the mattress and it didnt end up in a crusher..
