This is tough...

if price was no object?

A Colt carried by John Dillenger or Clyde Barrow, Melvin Purvis would do.

Barring that a USGI Marked Colt 1911 (Not A1) in Minty shape.

Maybe a Texas Ranger BBQ edition .38 super (El Jeffe)? Fully engraved, stainless, ivory.

Seiously though, an all steel stainless commander with light engraving and novaks would make me happy.

a full custom by Tussey, Yost, Burns, Novak, Leibinitz, or whomever on a Colt Series 70 Repro

I'm kinda fond of the one I own now.
Bench built using an Essex frame and slide, lotsa nice internal goodies. Park finished with diamond cocobolo panels. Bought it on consignment for cheap a couple of years ago and have loved it ever since. Not a tack driver but accurate enough for my skill level.

Well, hell, since we're dreaming, I want a commander slide on an officer's frame, select fire, infinate ammo.

JMB's personal 1911...

OR

The first 1911 that Colt rolled out, with serial # 000000001...

That would definitely be worth more than Barry Bonds' 73rd HR ball.

I dunno if JMB had a "personal" 1911, but the first one off the line wasn't #000000001. Actually, it was simply serial #1, with a small "1" on the right front dust cover. That pistol is shown in Wiliam Goddard's book on the Government Models, still available at Amazon and eBay. The hammer and a couple other parts were replaced when the pistol was still relatively new, but otherwise it's still intact.

As for my "dream" 1911, I honestly can't decide. 1930's National Match, 1940/41 blued M1911A1, Singer..... I can't decide. Among currently available guns it'd definitely be the new stainless Series 70, with just a few slight tweaks under the hood.
